In a fit of 'do gooding' on Saturday I spent a few hours buying toys for the local tv christmas toy drive. I spent ages choosing toys for each age group so no one would miss out. Loaded it into the car and felt very good with the world, beaming smiles all the way home imagining how the kids would feel on Christmas day.

Today I find out they don't do the toy drive anymore (fml) and I'm stuck with a bootfull of stuff. Any ideas as to a worthy cause - I really would like them to go to local disadvantaged children if possible who won't be getting much for Christmas.
Any suggestions as to how to find this out?

Thanks.

Local Children's Hospital ward?

There will be plenty of little ones in over the holidays, that could use some extra Christmas cheer.

Here's an original idea - Children's ward of a local hospital?

When you take them along, it would be nice if you brought along a children's entertainer to put on a show for the kids.

How about a mime artist?

Go to local minister/vicar/priest/rabbi whatever & ask him to give them anonymously to famillies he knows are struggling?

Either that or local children's ward - but that's a bit of a cliche Wink

I did think of the hospital idea but my assumption (rightly or wrongly) is that although they are poorly they will be getting lots of love and attention on Christmas day and will be fed and entertained. I was really looking for kids that weren't that lucky (if that makes sense because I know that Christmas in hospital isn't much fun).
I like the local minister idea - don't know why I hadn't thought of that - I'll contact the church - I'm not sure the Rabbi will be much help at Christmas.... Cheesy

Tnx x

Oops, aye, maybe not the best suggestion...

The local clergy are likely to know famillies not obviously struggling, but for whom the little bit of help at Xmas would be important.

All sorted - local Salvation Army works through social services and gives to those who are deemed to be most in need. Dropping them off on Friday, they will be wrapped on Saturday and delivered Christmas eve - to help Father Christmas who has so much to do. I think I may be getting a little broody....

There are all sorts of children on long term sick childrens wards. Not all get regular visits. I would have also looked into childrens homes.

Keech cottage hospice for terminally ill kids near me, if you do this again sometime

Quite the most moving and upsetting morning of my life a while back when I delivered some things to them on behalf of a charity and was shown round

A lovely gesture.

Perhaps, next time, consider Dr Barnados.

Do you do similar things for the elderly at Christmas? Just wondering, that's all.
