From my experience in dealing with the tax man, they don't let you pay in installments.  I guess them overpaying you it may be different but when it's normal tax you owe, you get zero sympathy, they want the money and if you don't pay, they charge interest.

Personally, I'd make sure it was correct first.

if they did agree to paying back in instalments it would be a lot more than a fiver a week and you'd be charged interest - chances are the money is due to you anyway, but I think I'd want to be doubly sure before spending it

in my experiences in the past the inland revenue do not charge you interest on over payments. they would also take into account your financial situation when negotiating payback instalments,

this is all probably immaterial anyway its probably money that belongs to you so stop worrying mate and enjoy

they certainly would in a case like this where self-assessment is involved.  If they didn't it would leave the system open to abuse by people submitting false information on their returns in order to get what would in effect be an interest-free loan

Just phoned them and yep the overpayment was due to the high amount of tax i paid last year all re-adjusted when this years form went in ohhh happy days...............................

on the list 2 new laptops for the boys + games and all the usual stuff
extra present for the girls
extra presents for mrs cia
weekend break in rome for mrs cia's 40th in Jan
overdraft returns to zero
and bit left to pay January tax bill
+ I'm going to give 5 homeless people £20 quid each or £100 to the NSPCC




and me?? I'll be happy seeing everyone else happy  thumbs up
