I tend to think women in LOW stakes live games are usually better than most men in those games.

Why would a woman want to sit around playing cards with fat drunk men unless she had some clue about what she was doing?

Understand where the money comes from and it will improve your confidence. Spend the live poker evening looking around the table for bad plays.

I think that's the key here.  Lots of men play, some good, some bad and some ugly.  Not as many women play, and those that do must think they have an aptitude (or at least the nature) to play well enough to win or at least enjoy themselves.  So the women playing are not a 'normal' sample.

In general that is, and all generalisations are dangerous (all of them).

Inherent problem with female poker players they dont play the same live as they do online, i dont really know why, i think women embarrass easier and therefore tend to make less moves lest they think they might look silly.(which just isn't the case at all)

Piffle!

Take 100 random female players and 100 random male, and overall the standard of the girls will be streets ahead.

Average female players are more self-conscious than male players. So the trick is not to give a toss what people think of you when you're sitting in front of them. Women generally like to leave a good impression on people and this restricts the flow of the poker skillz. In comparison the typical drunk guy to your left is oblivious to these matters and is thinking only about kebab meat. Next time you go to the casino look terrible. No make-up, matted hair, uncoordinated clothing. If you can do this and not care you will play much better.

Nobody said poker was easy bolt.

I would imagine the lady doesn't get dressed up for internet poker where she plays better....so having some fun going to a live game looking a state will challenge the social pressures she is putting on herself. No doubt that will be quite a difficult task. I am sorry it's not easier. But that would be a step in the right direction to recreating that care-free and ultimately successful online mentality she enjoys at home. I like the reading women's souls bit though. It could be true.

Thanks guys - I think in some ways Mantis may be right - i do want to leave a good impression. However, not in that way. I was thinking about it whilst;st at work tonight - and the fact is I want to make a huge impression - not with what i look like ...

I can do the Vicky Coren ditzy blonde bimbo - probably too well - and it's exceedingly handy at times - but not what i want my entire game to be about. Online everyone thinks I'm a bloke anyway - so i guess it never comes into it - and i suppose in some sense my game is freed up - as my raise rate is far more frequent and i trust my instincts more when calling with Ace high

However, I have concluded that the one thing which causes me to pres the FU button more times than not when live, is the fact that i am limiting my aggression - for god knows what reason, when i 'yearn' to be far more 'honest' or 'bullish.' I think it is probably fear of being our played  - and that is what i need to work on not giving a toss about - and the fact that it will take me longer than the 2 yrs to reach the standard that i deem acceptable.

Unfortunately for me - but very fortunately to everyone who frequents the G on a Wed it would appear that some rather expensive - but IMO worthwhile lessons are soon to be had.

Cheers for the suggestions - it certainly helped me in down a few thoughts which had clearly been troubling me subconsciously for  a while. - In the end i have to take Flushy's well thought out answer - and grow some... Wink

Axx

When I saw the words "I want to leave a good impression" assigned to a Post by Rookie, I had to do a double-take......

Very fine Show tonight Miss C. You left a good impression there.

Surely you realised it couldn't have been the moment 'I' said :

"I think in some ways Mantis may be right"

I shall be having words with Ling about this.

I had a similar thought when playing on Wednesday night.

Shortstacked I was pushing every unopened pot
Happy with the blinds or a flukey double up.

After a couple of comments i folded a couple

I could argue, I didnt want to force them to call at some point

But in reality online, I would have kept pushing until I had 10 BB or got looked up and lost.

So really because I was dealing with real people something in my head said I should stop because I didnt want to look stupid. Even though they were stupid for not understanding what I was doing.

Hope that makes sense.
