i think Lewis Hamilton looks the stand out bet as he came 2ND in an Olympic year and he is 15/8 to win f1 title so if you fancy him to win that you might as well take the 4/1 as there is no big sporting events taking place this year the ashes being the biggest one and i don't see that getting in Lewis Hamilton way if he takes down the title Andy Murray would have to take down a grand slam to win it and i don't think he is just ready to do that this season
BBC Sports Personality 2009 Andrew Murray 5/2 Mike Blair 33/1 Rio Ferdinand 66/1 Lewis Hamilton 4/1 Ian Poulter 33/1 Frank Lampard 66/1 Andrew Flintoff 8/1 Luke Donald 33/1 John Terry 66/1 Kevin Pietersen 8/1 Ian Bell 50/1 Rebecca Romero 100/1 Ricky Hatton 10/1 Carl Froch 50/1 Bradley Wiggins 100/1 David Haye 12/1 Amir Khan 50/1 Nicole Cooke 100/1 Monty Panesar 20/1 Wayne Rooney 50/1 Victoria Pendleton 100/1 Paula Radcliffe 20/1 Ronnie O'Sullivan 50/1 Paul Collingwood 100/1 Shane Williams 25/1 Steven Gerrard 50/1 David Beckham 100/1 Chris Hoy 25/1 Andrew Strauss 50/1 Ton Daley 100/1 Michael Vaughan 33/1 Danny Cipriani 50/1 Tony McCoy 100/1 Rebecca Adlington 33/1 Mark Cavendish 50/1 Colin Montgomerie 100/1 Paul Casey 33/1 Stuart Broad 66/1 Darren Clarke 100/1 Steve Harmison 33/1 Alastair Cook 66/1 Jonny Wilkinson 100/1 Ryan Jones 33/1 James Anderson 66/1 Theo Walcoot 100/1 Joe Calzaghe 33/1 Lee Byrne 66/1

Flintoff is a big price IMO, so is Pietersen. We have a chance of winning the Ashes, a decent chance and these two are the public faces in our rather hit and miss cricket team
this assumes Hamilton doesn't repeat. If he does I would expect him to win this as in most years winning the F1 Champ would have won him SPOTY with the Petrolhead bandwagon strong. Only an exceptional Olympic year stopped it this year.

I like the 3 cricketers @66 and Haye @12's.
Haye could win and defend the heaveyweight title in the next year (could be main word), we can dream.
The Murray price looks very thin to me and I think he will win a grand slam, but if he wins Australia he will do enough in the rest of the year to annoy the public.
Stuart Broad to win the ashes as man of the series would be sweet.

The only way a national winning jockey could possibly win is if he carries the fkin horse and not the other way round.

Not if its AP - this is the only thing missing I am sure the GB public would love for him to win this and if he does he is SPOTY imo. Obviously I am like shit at tipping so thic could perhaps be a great lay for someone with loads of dosh.

Any grand slam wins it for him imo, short of a monumental effort by another person.

LOL bless you mugs ... this is SPOTY, it is voted on by middle class England ... thats why Princess Anne and her daughter have both won it ... never a chance of a Jockey winning apart from Frankie (as he is the only one with enough media exposure) or Bob Champion, but even he had to get cancer and ride a fkin horse that was one stop away from the glue factory around Aintree.
Save your money ... If you want to throw it down the drain, Back POULTER !

why is Kevin Pietersen in the betting he should come into the overseas section there are not many sports that are not covered by the BBC that win the BBC spoty but f1 is one them you just have to look at this year event a see how the show was put together to push the votes towards a BBC covered sport allways has been allways will and Hamilton still came 2ND and if he wins f1 they will have to put him on just when the lines are closing for him not to win or they would have to have Murray dressed as a clown playing tennis with Peter Kay on the show for 1hr

Just saw 9/4 on Bluesquare to win Australian Open and 2/1 for SPOTY 2009. If you fancied the 9/4 for the Aussie Open surely the SPOTY would be a better bet as winning any slam would surely secure this for him. He seems bang in form just now but if he doesn't get Aussie Open he'll probably give a decent showing in US Open too later in the year.
