Hello all

I am after some information about me being conned(not 1st time)

3 months ago i was looking about on a wholesale forum to see if there was anything worth buying and making a few pennies. I noticed a guy new alot about items so decided to add him on msn. We talked for a few weeks about items that could be worth selling and then he told me about this website he had spent months setting up and said it would be a good investment. Stupid me decides to send him some money on paypal as he has shown me the site and it seems ok. He babbled on msn about how he has spent all day and everyday trying to make this site a success.

Well i decided to send some funds on paypal(a fair bit) and after a few days of telling me how hes spend it on designers etc, has vanished.

I have huge chat logs with this guy and dont no what 2 do.

I have his email address and name.

Can anyone give me some advice (i no that i was stupid and naive).

Thanks

(would paypal help me out?)

What did you send him the money for?  Did you have a contract?

Whats the websites address, is it up and running?
Do a whois on the website address and see what that brings up.
Ofcourse he may not actually own the site at all, anyway.
I dont think Paypal will be able to do much but worth repoting it anyway asap.
Best of luck.

In this instance, Paypal probably a bad route for funds recovery. Their guarantee will, afaik, only extend to tangible goods.

Afaik, imho, you may not need to show breach of contract to get your money back. He may well have committed a fraud. Print all the logs, and identify bits in which he says what he's going to do with your money and what promises he makes (explicit or implicit) to offer you a return for your investment.

Get a lawyer if you can. Or try Citizen's Advice, this will be slow, they swamped at the moment.

They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue.
