Tonight my pc has started to play up, for instance i went to search for a file and my search function won't work i get the stupid windows dog but no text search box etc.  Next step i decided to do a system restore clicked on system restore and juat get a blank page with system restore as the page title, also my antivirus seems to of disappeared was there this afternoon.

Any ideas what could be wrong?
Is there another way to do a system restore?

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

You can do a restore from safe mode..

Press F5 while the computer is booting up and choose Safe Mode, windows will boot in a basic state (no drivers or apps loaded) and will prompt you if you wish to do a restore..

That is if you have XP.. If you have Vista im sure its something similar but not 100% sure.

When i try this and go into safe mode it gives me this option window. Windows is running in safe mode. To proceed to work in safe mode click yes. If you prefer to use system restore to restore your computer to a previous state, click no.  If i click no and try to go to system restore i still get the blank system restore page. if i click yes and go to system restore same problem .

Sounds like your PC has a virus.  You need to boot from a cd and run a virus/spybot scan on the hard disk.

check out http://www.ubcd4win.com/ for bootable XP from CD
