Grosvenor Swansea

According to Blondepoker, the Grosvenor Swansea has a Sunday afternoon Poker game. This is in addition to a Sunday evening game.
I contacted the casino to find out the start time, only to be informed that there is not a Sunday afternoon game!
Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Has it been cancelled? Was there one in the first place?

Hi Newportlad
Sorry to hear that. I will check it out & get back to you with an explanation - the info we reproduced was correct at the time.

I'm from near Swansea and have been playing tournament poker online for the last 8 months, and not doing too badly. That is apart from all the bad beats I've been enduring over the last few weeks, but that's another story. Anyway, I feel it's time to start playing in live tournament and cut down on online play. If anyone has any information on any tournaments in the south wales area, in particular Swansea thenI'd be most grateful

OK, for Newportlad (sorry for delay) & hopeoftestate, I have spoken to
Grosvenor Swansea
again & they hold two tournaments a week, as follows:
Wednesday - 20 PLH
Sunday - 20 PLH
Last registration in both cases is 8pm.
But the first Wednesday & Sunday of each month they are both 50.
Always best to ring them before setting off though if you are not a regular - it's 01792 - 655 227.
I have no idea what happend to the Sunday afternoon 5 comp - they certainly listed it 2 months ago, but not any more.
Cardiff Grosvenor
have comps most nights - take a look in the blondepoker
Cardroom Directory
where they are all listed. They range from 5 PLH 2 nights a week, to a monthly 50 comp. Again, always check by 'phone before setting out - it's 02920 - 468 350.
Good luck in your first "live" poker adventure, & let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the feedback Tikay.
I have played at the Grosvenor Cardiff tourneys, but dont like the fact that you only start with 500 chips (Blinds start at 25-25). This seems its like a bit of a lottery to me (though i did acutally win on my 2nd visit).

Yep your right about Cardiff, very bingo-esque at times, but the starting points are 500 for the 10 er and 1000 for the 20 ers and 2000 points for the 50ers.

Hi Tikay
Just to let you know that i made a spur of the moment decision to enter the 5 PL Hold Em at Grosvenor Cardiff last night (we can't all afford the bigger re-buy tourneys). First time i have been since end of last year. 75 runners and i won it!!
Down to 200 chips at the end of the re-buys as well. So for a 20 stake i took home 675.
That's 2 wins out of 6 visits. And i still dont like the format!!

Congratulations Darren! 2 wins out of 6, & you don't like the format? Tell us where you DO like the format, so we can avoid!
Let's hope the streak continues - keep us informed.
I was away last week, so lost track of the sports news, but I heard Wales did well in the Rugby. I never realised they still played Rugby in those parts. Was it League or Union.....?

I take it you are having me on Tikay.....
I was one of the lucky few with a ticket for the game. What a great great day out in Cardiff.
Cardiff was swamped with Welsh & Irish fans, and it was in a great party atmosphere.

Just thought i would let you know on my latest trip to Grosvenor, Cardiff.
A record 97 players took part in Wednesday nights 5 Texas Hold Em. This easily surpases the record of 76 two weeks ago.
Grosvenor, Cardiff do not have a Poker room as such, just an allocated area of the openplan Casino (i dont know if this is the norm).
Anyway, being one the of last to enter, i had a nervous wait for a couple of minutes as Alex (Card Room Manager) confered with the Casino manager, and was able to squeeze us all in.
More poker tables were brought out, and chairs were stolen from every area to accommodate the players.
Before the game started, Alex announced that the Poker Room has space for 100 players. Play commenced at approx 8.30pm. 500 starting chips. Pot Limit. blinds 25-25 first hour then 25-50 increasing every 20 mins.
I'd like to give you a detailed report, but its very difficult when you are concentrating on the game.
One early hand i'd like to mention involved me getting Pocket 7's. I'm in mid position. I just call, and it goes round to BB who raises to 275. Im second to act, and with 3 others behind me i fold (was this correct? Would appreciated advice). 2 others call. Deal is A 10 7 9 7. So i folded Quad 7's!! Not a happy bunny.
At the end of the rebuy i have approx 2000 chips, which is just under average (i think). Blinds are 50-100 so i need to get a move on. My chips dwindle, and i'm forced to go all in about 800 chips from first position with Pocket 3's. Two callers and somehow my 3's hold up. After that i'm fairly comfortable for the next few hours. We then get down to the last 2 tables. Blinds are 1K/2K. I have 8K. Under pressure. Luckily i get some great starting hands with which i take pots uncontested. I make the final table of 9 and have 58K!! Blinds are 2K/4K. This puts me as one of 4 large stacks. Other 5 are relatively, or extremely short stacked.
Total prize pool is approx 2300. split is approx as follows.
9th - 5th 50
4th 230
3rd 340
2nd 520
1st 1200
I think this is pretty harsh considering we have 97 players. Thoughts please!
Final table starts at approx 1.30am. After about an hours play we are down the 3. We decide to split it 500 each and the winner taking the remaining 425. 45 mins later and there are still 3 of us, all on approx the same number of chips. On the small blind i get pocket 4's and raise the pot the maximum. Big blind re-raises the pot (virtually all in). I think, then re-raise him all in. I show my 4's and he shows A 4 offsuit. Unfortunately an A hit's the board and im out.
I leave the casino at 3.15am and dread having to get up for work at 7.30am!
Many thanks to Alex and everyone at Grosvenor, Cardiff. They do a great job.
They have slightly changed their Poker nights, and i've included the new days below:
Sunday 50 Texas Hold Em
First Sunday of every month 100 Texas Hold Em
Monday 20 Texas Hold Em
Tuesday 10 Texas Hold Em
Wednesday 5 Texas Hold Em
Thursday 20 Dealers Choice (Texas/4-Card Omaha)
Registration at 7pm for an 8pm start.
Still no freezeout's then!! Hopefully they can sort something out for Friday and Saturday night's when most normal people dont have work the next day!
