Deal or No Deal?

FML. There's a crowd in our area who used to run a pub tour (not sure if they still do). I kicked up BIG TIME about it when they first started. It was €20 to play and €10 reg. fee!!! Reason? They bring all the gear and a few dealers. Sigh. Needless to say, whilst they had takers in a few places, they never got going in our village.

Anyway, never played their tour and stuck to our usual pub games. Lately, I've been looking to get away from pub poker and wanted to chance some more serious poker. Only card room in our area happens to be run by the same crew from the tour mentioned above. They have larger buy ins most of the week (€50 plus, depending on the night), but tonight is their cheap seats tourney. Figured I'd give it a go to check the place out. So I phoned them. "€25 Freeze out tonight." "What's the reg fee?" "No other fees...€25 all in" I know this can't be possible, but we continue with some small chat before I ask, "How much of the €25 is paid out in the prize pool?" "€20 goes into prizes and the other €5 goes to dealers and floor staff." "Right. OK, cheers." FFS. €20 + €5 reg?!

Only other option is to drive 90 minutes to the Macau in Cork City where most tourneys are capped at 10% juice. By the time I get there, I've spent more in petrol than I've saved on reg fees.

Have times changed and reg fees gone mad? Is it just me who thinks it's crazy? Please bring me some sanity. Thank you.

People have to stop thinking of juice in terms of % of buy-in for low-buy in comps.

I think a €5 reg fee is perfectly reasonable for any dealer dealt comp - bit cheeky of them not to state this though. It should be billed as a €20+€5 tournament.

Dealers = kids. Some aren't even 18 yet. 'Trained' by the organisers.

They make 50 Euro a table and have to pay the dealers from this. No-one getting rich from this game.

i wouldnt consider it a night out. maybe its just standard for me coz i am a degen

but i think its resonable. 5Euro for dealer delt tourney

Deffo this. I don't mind paying for dealers etc, they cost money afterall. There's a room in Farnborough that has a £5 fee on comps, regardless on whether it's a £20 or £50, it's a fiver, but worth paying for the dealers etc.

If it's a cowboy outfit, then that's a different issue. it's not just the dealers you want out of things, it's the knowledge that it's going to be run well, and if the staff aren't up to it, then I'd think again about going. Worth a try at least once though, you never know these kids may be half decent

It's only bad the way it's misleading. Other than that £5 is about as small as you're going to get in terms of juice, regardless of the buy in for anything that's dealer dealt.

Even DTD charge £5 for their £25 I believe. Not unreasonable when you think the best card room in the country does similar.

In hindsight, I suppose I can see the point in the fee. Having to drag the info out of them was the painful part.

Bar a disaster with the weather in the next hour or two, I'm deffo going. Much rather play the €25 than play a €50+ comp my first time there. We'll see how it goes and report back after.
