Setting up a local poker website/forum - any legal issues?

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of setting up a small website/forum/community for my local poker players (100-200 maybe more) to join to get local tournament results info, speak to each other, arrange games, etc. I'm willing to put a small amount of money in for a domain and some of my own time - maybe a simple site with local poker news, photos, events, and a forum.

What are the legalities of owning a site/forum? Are there any known issues that crop up again and again on such sites? What if the players post messages inviting others to home cash games?

There are a lot of poker tournaments around here for £20 - £60 buy in - always freezeouts - but never publicly advertised - guy always emails a list of people, etc - basically anyone can play but that's not official. I'm not sure how above board they are but I play them all and always well run and never any hassle. Would it create problems if such games were advertised on the forum - not by me - but by normal users on the forum.

try setting one up using a facebook group, works very well for my brother who runs a weekly game, not so many members though

No I'm not going down the bebo/myspace/facebook route that everyone else seems to go these days. I want complete control over site content and layout and also a proper forum like this one. Also not all players are FB member or would want to be. I'm trying to create a local poker portal away from all the nonsense shite like facebook.

only problem you should face is making sure all the games are 100% legal as if there are any illegal ones the bobbies will have knowledge of where they are

the bobbies will give you no hassle its not down to them to but you may get a visit from the gaming commission
