just under 2 weeks away is the start of the pinnacle of national hunt racing the cheltenham festival.

whose up for a tipping competion???  cheltenham festival tuesday 10th-friday 13th march 2009

right this is how it works:

you choose one selection in each race of the festival. you then decide if you want your selection 2pts win or 1pt each way.

if you require your selection each way you must put E/W next to the horses name otherwise it will go as 2 pts win.

your selections for each of the days  racing must be posted on the appropriate thread before the start of the that days first race ( threads for each day will be up well in advance)

if your selection is  a non runner and you notice it before the start of the first race of that day then you can change it. if not your selection will become 2pts win on the favourite (in the case of join favourites the lowest racecard number will be your selection)

if by any chance you dont get your days selections on the thread before the off of the first race of the day then you will score -2pts on every race.

PLEASE NOTE ALL SELECTIONS MUST BE CHOSEN AND POSTED ON THE THREAD PRIOR TO THE OFF OF THE DAYS FIRST RACE

any post updated after the off of the first race will void all selections and the person will score -2pts for every race regardless of how his/her selections done.

scoring:

scoring will be on a basic profit/loss basis using each horses starting price , based on 2pts win or 1pt e/w on each race. the person with the best profit/loss each day and overall will be declared the winners.

for example each race you have a loser in your total will go down 2pts if you have say a 4/1 winner for your 2pts win you will be +8pts  for that race.

entry:

entry is $50 per person paid by "blonde" transfer only to me (blond alias: turny1967) if your blonde account wont allow you transfer facilitities then speak to kev who will be able to sort the transfer for you.

Entry money only accepted through "blonde". if you dont have a blonde account please use the banner to the side of this page and sign up and get one. again any issues with deposits colchesterkev will be pleased to help.

entries must be with me by midnight on monday 9th march 2009 at the latest. failure to do so will void any selection posts you may post during the competition.

Prizes:

Each day will have its own prize for the person who shows the best profit (or best loss lol)

there will also be an overall prize for the best points profit over the whole four days as well as 2nd and 3rd place prizes (overall 4 days only).

prize percentage of all entry monies are as follows:

each day winners gets 10% of the prize pot (4 days racing so 40% total)

the winner over the whole 4 days racing will recieve 30% of the prize pool and of course the title of "blonde champion cheltenham tipster"
2nd  will recieve20% of the prize pool and 3rd 10%. (total 60%)

in the event of any ties the prize monies will be split.

if the competition looks to be close on day 4 then entrants still in the running for the 4 day title may pm me their selections and i will put them on the thread as the first race goes off. (this will help avoid deliberate copying of selections to gain an advantage though i know no blondes would ever stoop that low lol)

prize pool if as follows:
due to low entries prize money as follows

over the whole 4 days only no daily prize

1st $250
2nd $100
3rd $50

i willl be updating most days after every race and publishing a complete table after each days racing.

so come on then names of whose interested on here please and any other questions?

a list of ante post runners are as follows as of monday 2nd march

Turny
Horneris
T Mar
Scotty2Hatty
Dunk619 (subject to stars transfer)
Rookie
Colchester Kev
mondatoo

8 runners

Very interested and think it looks excellent except for the payouts.

Cant you just scrap the daily winners and do 50%, 30%, 20% for the overall. 30% not enough.

If others agree of course.

Nice one Turny!

thought about this but then thought that if people are well behind after a couple of days then they arent going to have anything to play for and probably wont submit selections  so at least with a daily prize it keeps everyone interested.
the prize money does appear well spread i agree but i think the idea of this comp is not for someone to get rich out of it but just to give the entrants some interest and some banter on the festival and to maybe make a couple of quid in the process.

obviously they are my views but happy to change or alter the payouts to what the majority prefer.

I'm interested.
Would be happy with either payout structure.

I am definately in for this ...Re the prize structure its not really an issue with people not being interested if they fall behind cos they are generally only 1 winner away from being right back in it..  No one ever gets that far ahead they cant be caught ... I would vote for Horneris payout structure but its your comp and will leave it with you... I'll be in either way!

Sounds very good. One thing I'd like to bring up is the part about a non-bet being on the favourite. Imo it should just be -2pts.

In the Naps comp I think it was agreed that this would be better.

I'm in regardless. Just a thought.

do u mean if people fail to get there selections in or if they have a non runner?
think you have a point if people fail to submit there suggestions but rather unfair if their selection doesnt run.

happy to change it for people not submitting to -2pts for every race

Yeah, for people who do not have their selections in it should be -2pts, wp. Non-runner switched to favourite is fine.

I'm with you on the every race bit, I'd rather have a bank of 100 points to invest each day.

this just complicates matters further. by everyone having a selection every race it makes it easier for settling purposes.

not particularly in the mood for settling flags, perm patents and roundabout bets some might decide to do on the 100pt method lol

TBH I hadn't thought about that Smiley

I was actually meaning just singles either win or ew., but I reckon you knew that anyway.

Count me in whatever, although my money-management skillz will be hampered by having to bet like a donk.
