So, the Camel family decided to visit a few relations and go to Dubai for a week.

The viist was cunningly timed by me to coincide with the second biggest horse race meeting of the year at Nad Al Sheeba.

Dave Compton is the presenter of the racing from Dubai on Sky, and although I had never met Compo, but as I knew he was mates with tikay and posted quite a bit on here, I took the liberty of pming him a few questions.. such as are kids allowed to go racing, what was the dress code, did he know where to pick up taxis etc etc.

He researched the answers to my questions fully and came back with complete answers, and then staggered me by offering to get us some tickets to the meeting.

And not just any old tickets.. Grandstand tickets, with full hospilitality (when the camel gets stuck into a free buffet and bar...they usually take a hammering) and fantastic reserved seats really close to the winning line. To do all this, for someone you've never met was amazing.

As Compo was working in the parade ring I only got the chance to snatch a few words with him.. by I'd like to take the opportunity now to thank him very much for the fantastic evening we had and to hope to take him out to dinner if he's out in Vegas for the wsop this year.

Compo has his uses ... he is a generous bloke, ask anyone who has sat at the same table as him in a tourny

Looking after Camels in Dubai is part of his job description i reckon Wink

Nice Post Keith.

I hear you work for SIS or ATR, now Keith, Compo's outfit........

Go on, tell us the story, of you & George, in the Director's Box, at the track in Dubai ......

And yes, Compo is a legend. A complete shambles at poker, but a real top bloke.

Did you write him a letter saying;

 Dear Mr Jackson..my son really loves your show. Can he come and see it?

p.s. Can I come along too? I'd love to see a dancing waxwork...well, if you ever show up, that is.

Stripes are vertical, while hoops (as often sported by me) are horizontal and can only be worn successfully by someone with a well-toned torso.
