this really did make me laugh, " so mr customer, would you like the toilet papaer too?  ahh that will be extra"

I mean really charging passengers to take a shit?  wrong imo

I think it's a good thing.

Old people get too many breaks in this life, what with not having to pay VAT on fuel and state pensions etc. It's about time they started to pay their way.

I get 50p off the price of my flight to Dublin coz I'm young and can hold it in. Tikay will have to pay ~£3.50

We will charge for every possible thing we can think to charge for, but it will always be the passengers' choice whether they pay it or don't pay it," he said.

O'Leary said the company is now running an online competition to see what else the carrier can charge for on board.

God Bless Michael O'Leary.

Ryanair - probably the world's best Airline.

He can, of course, charge whatever he likes, for whatever he wants, as long as it's made clear before Booking. And would-be passengers have the choice, whether to fly Ryanair, or not. Passenger stats suggest they have got the business model spot on.

I wonder what would happen if you said "Look, it's like this. I don't have 50p, but I'm definitely going to have to shit somewhere sometime within the next 5 or 10 minutes".

I agree Tony he has the model right, he knows he has a captive audience and he squeezes every penny, yeh i feel this is opening the door to lower standards, The airline standards have dropped so badly due to demand for budget airlines  that at some point wit will be acceptable to offer fight A on the plane with the good engine and the sober pilot, or flight B take yer chances and the glue has nearly set on the wings.

Standards must remain imho

its kinda interesting from a customer perspective. if you're the kinda person that doesnt crap on planes then you're no longer paying the price for other people's poo because the crap fee stops them from raising their underlying prices by just a little. then again there may be some adverse selection at work where plane crappers start using other airlines more so theres a smaller proportion of them on ryanair. leading from that is a rather pleasant externality, if there are less plane crappers flying on ryanair then there will be less poo particles being recycled in the ryanair atmosphere which can only be a bonus to fellow passengers. having said that, being next to someone who is trying to hold in a crap for an entire flight could mean that there is a concentrated zone of poo particles around you.

all in all, as a non-plane-crapper, i think im in favour of the changes due to the reduced expected value of poo particles im breathing, although it does increase the variance - but i feel that as a healthy 21-year old my bankroll of health should be enough to sustain such swings

And there you have it.

Consumers can't have it both ways. Ryanair is super-cheap, extras or not, so huge Passenger numbers make it the success it is. They moan, of course, it's the modern way, we live in a moaning society, but it's Europe's biggest Short-Haul Airline because it does what it does well.

The average age of the Ryanair fleet, by the way, is the youngest of any major airline, so the 'planes are as safe as any, & safer than most.

It's also one of the the most punctual Airlines in Europe.

And at a time when all the big airlines are struggling to stay in business, Ryanair has over €700 million of cash sitting in it's bank.

So Sir Michael does not mind being unpopular. Wink

I cant flaw the chaps business acumen, infact he runs his business very well, However i am of the opinion that some things come with the flight as an un-said extra such as use of the toilet.  A glass of water, friendly staff.

I was using the old knackered plane analogy to highlight the potential of where does it stop, obviously i was taking things to extremes and exaggerating quite a bit, the point remains valid none the less.

In all fairness when Ryan air decided to charge for taking bags on board i said fine and fair enough as i only ever took carry on luggage I feel its a great idea, now however its a charge for bringing a non empty bowel or bladder on board.

Like i said earlier its just another drop in standards from where i stand
