At the start (assuming there are no rebuys), there are two ways of calculating how many chips you need. To work out the average chip count required to win a seat, divide the total chips in play by the number of seats available to be won. Or (even simpler, and this will sound like a no-brainer for anyone who’s good at maths but super-handy for anyone who isn’t) multiply the number of seats available by your starting stack. So if there are 10 seats available and you start with 1,500 in chips, average chips to win a seat will be 15,000. That’s your ultimate target, not first place.

so if there are 1000000000000 players and 10 seats all I have to do is multiply the number of seats by my starting stack to win a seat. Pretty awesome value imo.

To what end?  it's clearly an error, and anyone reading it and taking the advice at face value to try to win a seat probably shouldn't be wasting their money trying to qualify anyway!

Just been reminded of something that struck me as odd last night.  Was half watching EPT coverage on channel 4 last night and Vicky was co-commentating.  As one guy bust out of the tournament, he wished good luck to one of his table companions.  Coren made a very odd comment which I'm not going to paraphrase here in case I've remembered it wrong - anyone else see it?

In most cash satellites it actually isn't that bad a rule of thumb - its rare that you will find a sat with more than 15 buyins per seat and with a large field you should be able to get there with 2/3 average stack.
