Here's an incoming from the doyen of Poker Journos, Dame Shelley Rubenstein. It's charidee stuff, so read it, right? This Tourney has been running for 9 years now, & one can only imagine how much behind-the-scenes hard work goes into organising these Events year after year. So support it if you can, please.
One-to One IS a Registered Charity - see.....
One to One Project: reg. charity no. 801096
One to One Children’s Fund: reg. charity no. 1086159
So, even if it's a bit rich for you, please spread the word. Sharif will shoot you if you don't - or Shelley will turn you to stone with one of her withering staredowns. And you don't want that. You don't.
For reasons of common-sense, I have removed phone numbers & e-mail addresses from this - it's very unwise to publish such stuff on Forums - but if you want them, just PM me or ring me, & I'll pass them on to you.
Hello, hope you're well. The 9th Annual Omar Sharif Poker & Backgammon Charity Tournament takes place on Sunday, May 10th at London’s famous Sketch restaurant and club. I know times are tricky, but if you're able to come along, we'd love to see you there.
The UK-based charity One to One teams up for the third successive year with PKR, the leader in poker entertainment to continue its tradition in co-hosting the UK's most glamorous tournament and auction to benefit the international work of the children's charity.
Helping to raise a whopping £200,000 last year, Jamie Oliver auctioned dinner in his restaurant causing a bidding war, resolved when Oliver accepted the top two bids, generously throwing in an extra meal for two supervised by the TV chef.
Last year’s event and £4, 000 first prize was won by Leticia White, daughter of Marco Pierre White. Joining Leticia on the final table was Norman Pace and Hotel Babylon’s Dexter Fletcher.
Well-known poker professionals already signed up for the tournament include Dave ‘Devilfish‘ Ulliot, Dave Colclough, Marc Goodwin, John Tabatabai and a plethora of celebrity players volunteering for bounty duties.
The 2008 event raised significant funds enabling the One to One Children’s Fund to provide support and care for more than 1, 000 children and their families living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. The Expert Patient training programme was expanded, empowering more HIV positive mothers to help and advise in clinics serving as community role models in the fight against AIDS. The Kick AIDS initiative was introduced, harnessing Africa’s passion for football to offer HIV awareness-raising, testing and counselling at football tournaments and events, reaching out to children and families who would otherwise be reluctant to access services.
One to One Projects continue their work in Israel with Druse, Bedouin, Christian, Muslim and Jewish children. The co-existence work the charity does is vital in creating goodwill and trust between all Israeli children, which it is believed will help long term with the Peace Initiative. Over 40 co-existence projects including after school centres and schemes for children with disabilities and special needs will benefit from this event.
Tickets cost £365 which includes tournament entry and food and drink throughout the night. The event commences at 5pm with a champagne reception. Additional tickets for non-playing guests can be purchased for £100. For tickets, please contact Rita or Anne.
Tournament information:
The tournament is No Limit Texas Hold ‘em. £100 of the £365 entry fee will go into the prize pool. There will be a 90 minute rebuy period, with rebuys + add-on at £100, of which £50 goes to the prize pool and £50 to the charity.
As well as the auction and uber-value raffle with prizes including Manolo Blahnik shoes, Hermes scarf and tie and Dunhill gifts, there will be side games after the rebuy period.
It'd be really helpful if you could book tickets and sign up as early as possible. Please do pass this on to anyone you think would like to come along. Any questions, do ask and I hope to see you there. Best, Shelley

Hi All,
Without a doubt, this truly is a wonderful night out. I've been to a couple of these, and even though the buy-in might seem a tad expensive for some, it's worth every penny, especially after watching some touching videos of where the money goes and all the hard work put in by the 'one-to-one'. I must confess, I probably drunk and ate the buy-in amount though all the lovely champagne and food that was provided. Let's be honest, poker players are all pretty much selfish bastards, but this is the one occasion to give a little bit back.
Talking of selfish poker player bastard types, I personally enjoy the look on the face of the doorman when he hears my common London accent, when my name is actually on the list. He then thinks I am 'bluffing' but still lets me in. Oh, just one more thing, if you're in-it to win-it, don't bother because Norman and Beverley Pace seem to always win these bloody things.

Thanks John, great Post.
It's a lot of money, so I know not many, if any, can afford, or wish, to play it.
But if you just help spread the word - maybe Post this on other Forums - you never know, it might raise a bit more money.
And save you from getting the dreaded Shelley-Staredown.

Tim, if you get any more senior you'll be pushing up daisies, but you're right, it's a great night out. Be warned - last year I put all my chips in with Jack Ten on a JJx flop only to get 4 callers and outdrawn by Jaimie Oliver's J2 when the 2 dropped on the river. Whilst muttering (under my breath) 'How many f .. ing jacks are there in this pack?' the rest of the table was busy shoving it in with K7, A9 and a pair of
. So
caveat emptor
- lots of fun and lots of drinking!

I attended the one to one at Sketch on Sunday, and I have to say it was a fantastic, and a really fun evening out.
Shelley as always was brilliant hostess and her hard work didn't go unnoticed, she always had a smile for everybody and made sure everyone had a drink. I could go on but it wouldn't give her justice to how much she did for the one to one charity event.
I would also like to thank her personally by inviting me to this prestigious event, for a wonderful cause.
Oh by the way, the poker tournament was won by a very modest Beverley Pace, beating Michael Grecco heads up. But you all knew that already as I predicted this in my previous post.
