Sighhhhhh ... you can just imagine the convos at immigration
Random caller "Hello is that immigration"
Immigration office "Yes sir, how can we help"
Random caller "I would like to come and live in Britain please"
Immigration office "OK Sir, just a few questions, tell me about your situation please"
Random caller "Well, I am busto, and want to move to a country with free health care, state handouts and I want a council house ... I dont want to work and I want to drain the British economy"
Immigration office "sounds good, I do have one more question for you, firstly have you ever done anything to support Britain"
Random caller "What do you mean by SUPPORT ?"
Immigration office "Well Sir, have you ever put your life on the line by fighting in the British army ?, you know. serving queen and country and all that"
Random caller "No, I hate the British .. I will never make an effort to learn the language, and I will probably protest at homecoming parades for British soldiers if I get accepted in to Britain"
Immigration office "Phewwwww thank fuck for that, I thought you were a Ghurka !! ... Welcome to Britain"

In the last year or so one of the catering companies at Heathrow have taken on a lot of Ghurkas as drivers/loaders,i was taking to one of the supervisors and he said he had never had better staff, hard working, trustworthy, punctual, never off etc.
I've also seen a couple of Ghurkas working car park security at T5 where they literally march up and down the car park,i suspect car crime is down by quite a lot when they are on shift.I can't see anything but positives from allowing ex servicemen being given the right to settle here.
However my mate playing devil's advocate said they are mercenaries who were paid to do a job and once there contract was over it should be the end of it.

Fair point, but.;
According to the new rules; "Once they have served for 20 years they are allowed to stay in Brittain"...as far as I know a Ghurka rifleman is forced to retire after 15 years (I can't find anything that contradicts this).
Also; The british army is currently recruiting foreign nationals and telling them "If you serve for 5 years you can stay in Brittain".
I reckon it's only fair to the Ghurkas that have served through proper wars and all that to be allowed to stay.

They have far more right to be here than many - the Dutch, for instance.

You're not wrong...whereas the Ghurkas are hardworking, diligent and always show up on time, the Dutch are well....not all those things
