I have read the threads here saying that the cheapest TomToms are perfectly fine Sat Navs. If I buy one tomorrow morning, can I put it straight in the car and use it or do I need to charge it up/muck about with it at home first? Also Amazon pimp the windscreen holder accessory on every page, it doesn't come with one already?

The only two I've seen bought, came with the holder for mounting it on your windscreen.

They work straight out of the box, and charge from your cigarette lighter socket.

And if your like young Jizzemm here you can have it on when driving down to Cardiff, but decide that the sat nav is 'wrong', ignore it, go anothe route and try and 'beat' it...

Did you say somewhere that you had a smartphone? I had a free route software called AmazeGPS on my smartphone and just upgraded to Tomtom for very cheap, with speedcamera detection and europe maps, works as well as any standalone device.
