Yes this is the most important factor, i made an error in leaving it out.

I find it difficult to get bad EW bets on tho Keith, which explains why i didnt allude to it as such.

It's always a good idea in theory is this but finding a bookmaker to lay you each-way about a second-fav behind a long odds-on shot is never easy.
It was probably easier back in the day when they bet 1/6 the odds in races containing an odds-on jobbie.
Is there any mileage in backing these place only on Betfair instead?

so many different factors go into picking a horse to win a race but the one thing i think should be done before you start to pick a horse is before studying the form at a particular course, have a think of what type of horse is needed to win that day,, check the going , is is a tough or easy course. if its heavy and its Plumpton or Towcestor look for horses with the form to run in these conditions .same with the firm especially on a easier course. after eliminating a lot of horses then its down to is it good enough to beat the rest and the price,

No mileage whatsoever.

That horse I highlighted yesterday was trading at 6.2-6.4 in the win market when it was 5/1. But in the place market at the same time it was 1.52-1.53. The fact you could get Evens a place with the bookies showed just what great value it was.

I know everyone says it is impossible getting on these horses, and to a certain extent that's true. But if you aren't greedy and spread your bets around a bit, you should still get a fair bit on.

And as the OP seems to be just starting out in this game, I assume he won't be betting more than say £50 each way, which you can get on very easily, especially if you aren't "known" as a winning punter.

i have a lot of fun gambling but never on horses unless in Ireland off the leash and being led astray by a bloke who ensures we miss the first race in which I had picked the winner

Fixed my own post.......haven't backed a horse since tho

I read your post as you enjoyed all forms of betting except horse racing which you still bet on, just didn't enjoy it!

You are correct I wouldn't be putting £30 ew atm, my bankroll of £20.84 (I really need to get rid of the .84 in my account, really annoys me) doesn't really allow for interesting bets yet, slow and steady wins the race as they say (ironic for this topic really). Is it possible to do a horse accumulator ew, 4 horses to all place and return a decent amount? I have £20 to put a £10.42 ew bet on for tomorrow. Any interesting names for tomorrow? Thanks again for all the brilliant posts!

Yes it is. However, that is exactly the sort of bet bookies dream of. 20£ on one horse to win is infinitely more preferable to a 4 horse EW accy.
