On the whole, how does Strachan rate with Celtic fans now he's left?

Have the revenues for both Celtic and rangers dipped a huge amount since O'Neil was manager? they can hardly afford transfer fee's these days and seem to stick to home grown talent that's simply not good enough  beyond the domestic game. Saying strachan is a chump sums up why anyone who manages the big two up there is on a hiding to nothing.

Ive never rated Strachan as a Manager though so thats mostly why i say what i do. He did nowt at Coventry (other than keep them up) and at Southampton he wasnt ever that great despite them having some decent players.

Whereas O Neill led a dire Leicester City team to a few cup finals, kept them in the PL and established them, and did wonders at Celtic. And is doing a very good job at Aston Villa by all accounts (apart from the UEFA goof up)

He's never been popular, and the chucking away of the league this year really soured things further.

In most eyes he was a great signing for what the board wanted (cost cutting), but didn't inspire the fans.

Time will tell whether the fact that we're practically debt free will be important, as a lot of clubs could go to the wall in the near future.

Strachan never was one to hang around went it got a bit sticky though. Maybe he will go to Wigan!?

He did a good job in his first season after his initial dodgy start, succeeding MON was never going to be an easy task. Since then it was downhill with the exception of some decent scalps in the CL but for every Man Utd & AC Milan there was a Clyde or St Mirren.

The standard of football was turgid and unwatchable at times against opposition with nowhere near the resources of Celtic. He should have left after winning 3 league titles in a row. The vast majority of fans wanted him out towards the end and tbh I think he knew he was going long ago, he just didn't look interested towards the end.

Maybe thats why Coyle didnt look too happy after winning play offs the other day. I would prefer to manage Burnley over Celtic just because of the rewards the Premiership can give you if you do well.

Not being funny but my nan could guide Celtic to a top two finish in the SPL. Doesnt take a great man to do it. Funny how nobody has taken Celtic to the heady heights of European finals like Martin O Neill once did! He's a great manager. Strachan is just a chump.

Aye, that would be the UEFA cup eh? Since when Strachan has won the league and been in the CL every season. And no European finals in 4 years, a travesty of unimagineable proportions.

They've leaked a few things to some of the unofficial Celtic websites in the past to bypass the usual press channels.

One of the sites they've used in the past has been touting a couple of foreign coaches - Eric Gerets and Stale Solbakken - and has also been saying things will take longer than most of the press are claiming.

Tony Mowbray is expected to be confirmed as the new manager of Celtic today. The West Bromwich Albion manager was offered the job late last night and, assuming the Coca-Cola Championship club accept a compensation fee in excess of £1m, will be unveiled on Monday.

Dermot Desmond, the principal shareholder, identified Celtic's former centre-back as the preferred candidate to succeed Gordon Strachan and Mark McGhee, who had also been in the running, will now replace Jimmy Calderwood as Aberdeen manager.

It ends a two-week search for a replacement for Strachan, who announced his resignation after failing to secure a fourth successive title. Mowbray will be assisted by Peter Grant, the former Celtic midfielder, and Neil Lennon, who will remain as first-team coach next season before embarking on his own managerial career.

Both Mowbray and McGhee were hanging by the telephone last night as Desmond, Lawwell and the rest of the plc board deliberated over the two candidates. Owen Coyle, the early front-runner, had confirmed his intention to remain at Burnley during a final TransAtlantic conversation and Mowbray's experience in the Barclays Premier League last season is believed to have given him the advantage over McGhee...............
