Men's French Open - Robin Soderling
«

Ok so it's semis now and I can't quite understand why Soderling is 6/1 when he beat Nadal but have no idea about clay and haven't kept up to date with tennis for ages.
Thoughts?
Pls talk me in or out of absolutely blasting on this.

He's got to beat Gonzalez, who beat Murray comfortably and is a clay specialist...50-50 match
then Federer, in which he once again would be a big underdog, in Federer's golden chance to win the French and become only the fifth player ever to win all four majors. Federer should be pumped to the moon, he'll never have a better chance
6/1 is about right

No Clay specialist comes any bigger than Nadal though so Soderling must be pretty awesome on Clay too no? Plus I wasn't impressed by Murray that day.
Is it not worthwhile taking him at 6's and then laying in the final?

Based on talent alone his chance against Gonzo is good, I'd expect him to win. He obviously has a chance against Federer having outplayed the world's best ever clay specialist.
My worry would be how he sustains his effort in the late stages of a Grand Slam having not been there before. People usually fall apart about this stage of the big tourneys, even the great Federer used to do it all the time before he became a tennis god. I agree with tighty 6/1 looks about right. recommendation: no bet

Soderling produced a great upset but he is not a clay specialist

Save your money bud.
Its a bit of a flash in the pan and Nadal didnt really show up that day plus him and Soderling have huge history which affected Nadal a bit.
Gonzo will beat Soderling in straight sets, maybe 4 IMO

It's alright, despite increased life expectancy, you can't have long left

Maybe so but you can guarantee these hits will be carried out.
