My main question would be..."How did she know his name was Alan?"

Only a reasonable explanation for you as you obviously know what kind of stuff your standard porsche driver gets up to... hmmm, didn't you post a picture of a porsche up once on here? Who did it belong to again?

A week to go and I have just been to Tony and Vince in Edgeware for a number twos and a bit of French polish. I have been going there since I first moved down to London. The talk inevitably moved to poker, it always does. Most of the barbers in there play in some way or other and then we moved on to the wider sphere of gambling. Particularly on the internet and the advance of bingo and slots on the net. A couple of stories recounted were really scary. One involving £120k on slots in three years.
Is there a place for gambling in a normal well rounded individuals psychological make up? If there is, does it have to be administered with iron self control? All of us who play poker are to some degree gamblers. Some of us are addicted to it. Is the very fact that we gamble mildly self delusional or is it just a need to be right? Take calling as an example. You do not have the nut hand. You do not have nearly the nut hand. You know to make the call of the large bet on the river is going to damage your stack but you are sure he is bluffing. To lay down would be no disgrace but you think you are right and want to prove it to the world.........so you call. Your king high is good and your opponent shakes his head as yet another bluff crashes and burns with a missed flush draw. In horse racing the need to be right is very strong. I pick a horse. It is now my horse. My judgement. It wins I tell everybody how clever I am. It loses I tell everybody the jockey should be shot.
It is the same with casino games such as Roulette or blackjack where as an individual you have various decisions to make, but there are some games that lie outside of selection. Three card poker, bingo and slots I would name as three. Aside from selection of seat, there would appear to be no real selection going on and yet somehow they are just as compelling and even more addictive. As one who, spent his bus fare home in Thomas’s as a kid, understands, the allure of the fruit machine can be very powerful.
So this leaves us in a place where I think the only thing that holds true about all gambling is the saying “to thine own self be true”. Well this week I wasn’t. I saw a load of my poker buddies all going off to Luton and instead of being true to what I needed to do, which as I stated previously was not to play, I went to Luton to play.
Well my aces were cracked by queens and an early exit was on the cards and like most of life duly followed. Not much of an example to Adam and Rachel when you don’t follow through with what you say you are going to do. Well they repaid me today. They both had outstanding days at school and I am now in a position where I am learning from them. Adam aced his French oral and got a 6C in his latest English piece which was one grade above his stretch target. Rachel trounced a maths test.
We have one basic mantra. “If you are going to do it, then do it well and deliver what you say you are going to”. They did. I didn’t. I intend to next time. For the gambler there is always next time.
Todays quote comes from Harrington Most flops miss most hands.......
