New Tranmere boss John Barnes today proved his fine football tallent spotting skills when he appointed educationally challenged Jason "Trigger" McAteer as his assistant manager.

This will all no doubt end in nearly as much farce as a Laxie RSQ.

Banres is an odd appointment as Ronnie Moore had Tranmere 1 off a play off spot at the end of last season on comparatively slight resources

McAteer smacks of an appointment, given his Tranmere track record and Liverpool upbringing, to give the new manager PR some populist cover if it starts slowly..keep the crowd onside

I know, I know...but you just wait until he gets Tranmere to play beautiful footie for a few seasons...then they'll get relegated and he'll be back home @Celtic Park Smiley

''Long-ball, stick it up 'em'' approach worked very well for Ronnie, made the most of what he had, very strange in that a lot of Tranmere fans know/knew this, and were happy as there not an impatient bunch generally, some I know were gobsmacked with his sacking...

Didn't they say he was sacked as the crowds had gone down by 30-40% under him?

Good luck to him, in hindsight a terrible decision to take the Celtic job but this could be a good move to get back in to football.

As long as it keeps him from hosting any sports programs, I'm a happy man.
