[ ] car always wins
cars have lost at least three times, once to a boat, once to a bike and once to ronnie o'sullivan. probs more than that
I hardly watch the show and even I know that the car doesn't always win.
the bobsleigh, the urban surfers in Liverpool, some climbers and wot not.
Car loses a fair bit.
True.
but not when the boys are racing eachother.

This must be like porn for TK, although he obviously doesn't watch Topgear as he hates everybody on it.
TK, if you read this...watch this Topgear episode on iplayer...doesn't get much better than this for you (unless Clarkson was replaced by Orpie obv.)
Sorry boldie, but nothing on earth could force me to watch children's TV, & lads who drool over cars need to grow up imo, cars are tools, which we use to get around, not toys.
"Tornado" too is fake - Steam Locomotives need to be aged to have authenticity. New Steam Locomotives have zero street-cred with Steam buffs.
The Vincent intrigues me though - I used to own a "Vincent Shadow". Vincents had the nick "The Rolls-Royce of motorbikes" & well-deserved that title was, too.
Many Drag-Bikes were Vincent-powered, as were 60's Racing combos (sidecar racing). In fact I think Sidecar Legend Chris Vincent actually rode a Vincent powered jobbie, & Owen Owen had a Vincent-powred "trike", built to circumvent the regulations.
And I'm not entirely sure here, but I think the famous Dunstall-Domiracer may have been based on a Vincent block installed in a Norton Featherbed frame.
In the early 60's, even then I was a supporter of the underdog, & I was at Brands one day, where the local hero was Derek Minter, ("The Mint") the self-styled "King of Brands".
Paul Downer, on the Dunstall-Domiracer (1,000cc I believe) & Mint were dicing for the lead in the main race of the day. Inches apart down Westfield, Mint's Norton burst an oil line, the oil sprayed over his rear tyre, he came down on his own oil, & Paul Downer piled into the wreckage & was killed outright. Mint was badly injured, but recovered. I never forgave Derek Minter, which was foolish really, as it was just a "racing accident".
It's strange how these things, so many years ago, stick in the miind.

PS - Apologies to boldie if I appear to be overly grumpy today. It's because I am.

I seem to be getting to a stage where I can recall all the old stuff in pin-sharp, vivid detail. It's just the new stuff I can't handle.

Appetite well & truly whetted, I just had to go google that Race at Brands, which, it seems, later became known as the best UK short-track race ever. In the same trite way, I suppose, as, in horse-racing, Bustino v Grundy at Ascot in the King George was. (Amazingly, 30 years (?) on, I can still recite, without the aid of google, the breeding of both those two).
Anyway, I found a pic of Downer & Minter in that very race. What memories!
In the picture, Dave Downer is ahead, shortly to be overtaken by Derek, & death.
Almost unbelievably, that Race was 47 years ago.
Note the pudding-bowl helmets.

i wonder how you justify buying a bmw instead of say a honda civic or a toyota corolla which would be much cheaper, more economical, just as reliable, just as safe in any roll over incidents, cruise just as happily at motorway speeds and probably ride a lot better if your zimmer is on run flat tyres?
most people including myself of course would take the zimmer but it's for toy like reasons like sporty handling and prestige surely?
levi jeans or armanis?

Obv.
Cars are 2 a penny, anyone can buy them, borrow them, drive them.
Trains, & Locomotives, are nothing like so accessible, & only Heroes drive them. The Driver has responsibility for the safety of his Passengers - as many as 1,000 of them per journey.
Locos smell nice, too.

were you in to speedway as a lad Tikay? My late grandfather (died before I was born) was a speedway racer/rider (what's the correct terminology?) - no idea if he was well known or not. I should make an effort to find out more about him.
