Poker Books

Have read a good few poker books in recent years and I believe they have made me a better player. The one that most improved me was Doyle Brunson: Super Systems 2. I believe this book hugely improved my game by taking things Doyle had to say and adapting them into my game.

harrington on holdem I and II are a great starting point, theyre tourney oriented but give a decent insight into poker fundamentals

took me about 2000 attempts to read theory of poker, his style is terrible, even if the content is still firstclass.

Super System isn't a good book, maybe in it's day it was, but things have advanced so far

QFMFT, whilst it's undoubtedly a key poker text, trying to read that when you barely know NLHE is impossible as all the examples are stud/razz/draw based.

Tommy Angelo's - Elements of Poker is the nizzles for anyone who wants to try a non strategy based poker book. I can count on three fingers the number of poker books that i've read that have noticebly made me a better player and that's one of them.

I prefer visual strategy sources rather than books, Win At Poker With Phil Tufnell is the best of the bunch.  I think this DVD is the main reason for my huge success to this date. Check out my sharkscope stats if you doubt me , they are really impressive and Tufnell played his part in these results. If only I could speak French, I may have been able to progress onto Eric Cantona's poker book I saw advertised on google books a while back.

The Phil Tufnel one? Really?

I saw that a while back & thought it was entertaining but very basic.

As far as books go, the only one I've enjoyed is Big Deal, but that's obviously not intended as instructional.  I have 'Killer Poker Online' by John Vorhaus. Glad I got it cheap coz it stinks. He must have a degree in stating the bleedin obvious: the whole book is just basically, "relax, concentrate and don't tilt."

I also have 'Play Poker Like the Pros' by Phil Helmuth.  Don't know that its helped my game any, but its interesting to hear his theories on the game.

I'm intrigued by 'Elements Of Poker'. Just looked it up on eBay, you can 'buy-it-now' for only £42!  Amazon at £18. Even that's a bit steep for a book IMO.
