I would love to watch or even compete in a NL hold'em tournament.
Does any one know of any card rooms in the northeast?
I like watching poker on the TV and would love to try a live tournament. I realise that there is a very slim chance of winning, but would look forward to playing live
I do keep records and after 1 year playing on line I am about 28% up on my original stake (300) I do try to win big, but i am quite happy playing to earn just enough to keep me on the tables.
Is there any places in the North East that members coould recommend?
Many thanks

Hi mahound.

Try our Cardroom Directory, it lists all (we hope!) the UK Casinos & the various comps they hold.

"North East"? Try Stanleys or Grosvenor in Newcastle, or the Gala in Teeside. Stanley's in Newcastle has a great bunch of guys, & I feel sure they will be helpful to you as a newbie.

But ring them before you go, in case our info is out of date.

And how about letting us know how you get on?

Remember you will need to become a member to play (unless you know someone who can sign you in), & it takes 24 hours for Membership to become valid.

Enjoy!

thanks for the plug tony!
hi mahound,
we run a 20 NLHE comp every sunday at stanleys, and you will need to be either a member (apply 24 hours before you intend to visit) or a 'bona-fide guest' of a member to get into the club.
registration for the competition starts at 7.30pm, with the game starting at 8.30
re-buys are for 90 minutes, with an add-on at the end of the re-buy period.
games are self-dealt up until the final table, and should you be fortunate enough to make it that far, usually finishes at around 2am.
most of the players are friendly and are usually pretty helpful towards a new player such as yourself.
by all means, stop by and take a look if you like, we'll be more than happy to explain anything that you're uncertain about.
hope to see you there soon.

There is a 50 Pot Limit Holdem comp on a Tuesday night at Stanley's casino in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Also a 20 PLH on a Friday night at Grosvenor in Newcastle. Please check the details with the card rooms first, however I think these details are correct. GOOD LUCK!

Mahound - there you go, I told you the team at Stanley's Newcastle were friendly & helpful! Sean Moran is the Cardroom Manager (or acts like he is...), & it's not every day that a guy in his position posts a reply saying "come & see us, we will explain how it all works", now is it? So pop in one night & take a look - you wont regret it, I promise.

Carlo - what you like? You forgot to mention - first Tuesday of every month - that's this coming Tuesday as it happens - they have a 100 PLH comp - cracking comp it is, too. OK, maybe not relevant to Mahound, but Stanley's deserve the plug, eh?

I usually go up to Newcastle - which is on the borders of Norway, or so it seems - for their 100-er, & folks wonder how daft I am to go so far for a 100 comp. But they really are great fun those Geordie boys, & it's worth the long drive.

As you well know it's been a while and as i said i'm a little rusty tikay sorry i won't be there this month but as you will be making such a long trip (and it's an even longer trip home when you are skint) you are most welcome to crash at my place. I will even get the ''old ball and chain'' to fix you some thing to eat.

Carlo,

Thanks for that offer, I really appreciated that. But I have a meeting in the Midlands early on Wednesday, so I will have to "pass" on this occasion. I'm good at passing.....

I shall be dropping you a note about another matter via the message service or e-mail some time today.

Take care fella, see you in Dublin. And I owe you a drink. What'll it be, tea, coffee, or summat stronger - Ovaltine, maybe?
