That sailing round the world lady, Ellen MacArthur, just beat Jimmy Carr's lap time in the 'star in a reasonably priced car' section of Top Gear. That record had stood for a fair old while before today.

Something about that woman scares me, she can do anything. I think if she chose to, she could be Queen of the Universe and use her power for evil so someone should keep an eye.

She's bloody fantastic, the book was awe inspiring and I followed her progress in the last round the world attempt, which she achieved, daily on her website

Astounding courage.

When you can only sleep for 20 minutes sleep at a time because if you sleep longer you'll die. That's bloody amazing indeed. You can see raw determination in her eyes,  I've never seen that before, so clearly, in anyone.

I think I'll push someone off my fantasy dinner party guests from tightend's 'If you could...' thread and add her.

She's about 8 stone wet through and about 5 ft 2 tops

Her biggest mast nearly collapses in the middle of a South Atlantic gale and she climbs up the pole with a tool kit and a sou'wester on, rips her leg open, fixes it, comes down, grabs 20 minutes kip, sutures herself, takes some injections, self administered and carries on

Unbelievable stuff

I truly believe she could accomplish absolutely anything. Hope she doesn't take up poker, no other bugger'll stand a chance.

Doesn't her snivelling get on your tits though? It would also be nice for the guy that designed and built the highley advanced and equiped B&Q yacht some credit. I mean it came flat pack had 5 different sizes of allen key bolts to do had a mast missing and the instructions were from a pedlo they had in clearance

I watched an older one earlier with Trevor Eve (actor).
He ended up about 4th on the board but on another lap he had the wheel collapse on him, they said that he would easily have beaten Jimmy Carrs lap time and even said that he was by far the best driver they had had on the prog.

Of course not.

Is that the Top Gear equivalent of a bad beat story?

We'd all be world champs at poker if it wasn't for our wheels coming off at the wrong time. MacArthur is champ, results are the only thing that count.

Does having car in you name make you a better top gear driver?

Jimmy Carr

Ellen MacArthur

oh and how about Trevor Eve

(Note to self - Stop posting s***e and play some bloomin' poker already)

And equally a little bit sad and lonely. I get the impression that a good man could make her whole. Stop the messing about on boats and settle down woman!

I just don't get the fascination with her.
It's like she missed the night at Uni when a man made her all warm and fuzzy inside. So now, in a desperate attempt to find completion in her life, she goes out alone in boats.
Can't wait for the ladieees to respond to this one!
I'm saying this a bit tongue in cheek but there must be something missing in her life to want to do that?
ps I'm about half half new man. I change nappies and cook but also believe in mums being mums and not sticking the kids in childcare and having a "career". Wow I'm dead on this forum now arnt I?!
