I have held off putting this up until the draw was complete as it could quite easily change everything. On the American hard courts there seems to be a beating and inter beating within the top 3 or 4 of the Men on the tour and the draw has managed to help me select a few bets for the US.
Federer has won the US open for the last 5 years and it looks unlikely that he wont get a 6th title however there are doubts about him this year. Has he got the motiation still to go on now he has the record for most Majors? The only real record he doesnt currently have is the Number of Masters Series events which he is currently tied with Andre Agassi. Federer also lost to Tsonga a few weeks back after being 5:1 up in the final set and basically choked. Federer has had a fantastic draw here and should ease through to atleast the Semi's. He could face potential opponents such as Hewitt, Blake, Matheiu and Davydenko but his hea to head against of all of these is nothing short of incredible. More importantly Federer is in the opposite half of the draw to Nadal, Murray and Tsonga.
The second quarter down has drawn Djokovic, Verdasco and Roddick in the same section and any of these guys could easily come through here. Roddick will be pumped infront of his home crowd and I would probably favour him to come through out of these three but his head to head against Federer is diabolical.
The bottom half has got some cracking matches lined up. Tsonga is in the 3rd quarter along with Nadal. However Tsonga is so up and down its untrue. On his day he could beat anyone in the World but sadly his day doesnt come out to play often enough. With the doubts still over Nadal's fitness he could give the Spaniard a real test, if he gets there.
Sadly my value pick for the comp has had a tough draw. Juan Martin Del Potro has got to play players like Safin, Fish, Ferrero and Simon before even making the quarters and although he should get past these its not the easiest of routes through. Del Potro seems to be one of the guys that Murray really struggles with. Del Potro comes out of the corners of the court so well and it kinda of destroys Murrays counter attacking game. I feel as if it will be a Murray vs Del Potro quarter and whoever the winner is I would take to beat Nadal / Djokovic in the Semi. Saying that whoever comes through has to play Federer and I dont think anyone will beat him this year.
Ive backed: -
Federer @ 6/5 (general) for 5 points Del Potro @ 11/1 (Boylesports) for 2 points
The Womens side of the event could be an interesting one too. There is so much bitchyness aroun at the moment regarding the number one in the World its hilarious. Serena keeps saying she is number one and how can you have a current number one who hasnt won a Grand Slam and others are joining in too. Sadly it looks as if the Williams were set to steal the tournament again but the fantastic draw has seen them drawn to play in the Semi's. So which Williams will make it? Personally I would take Serena of the two and she does seem to have a slightly better draw. Venus has been known for the odd slip up in the majors and there are a few potential ones lined up for her this time too. Dushevina and Clisjters could upset Venus here and I would be laying Venus for the win. I wanted to back Elena Dementieva but sadly her price of 8/1 doesnt seem too attractive.
Personally im struggling to look past Serena but her price of 23/10 doesnt overly appeal but Ill be backing her and Dementieva both to small stakes for a small interest.

You can still get 4/1 for Murray to win SPOTY. Better value bet I think.

Suprised to see Flintoff at 9's and Strauss at 10's if button doesn't win F1 and murray doesn't win US Open who else would be in contention ?
Lump on both imo

Well I don't think any of the England team were outstanding enough so I can't see any of them winning, unless Flintoff gets some kind of sympathy vote. If Murray wins the US Open then he'll win SPOTY, and therefore he's better value for SPOTY than for US Open. Also the tennnis end of year thingy is in London this year which will guarantee lots of coverage at the time of voting which can't do Murray's cause any harm.
