After a testing year so far (putting it mildly - marriage breakup and not my choice etc) my reward has arrived, well it is booked now anyway! A month in Vegas baby!  I am travelling out on 28th October till 29th November and I can't wait now.

Flying on direct flights and a month long stay at the Venetian. I intend to play at least 75-80% of the festival, and chill-ax by the pool and in the local area's and shops on the off days I give myself!  Buy in for all the events works out at $16.15k, so will likely allow myself $12.5k to do the 75-80%.  With the flights and suite (at Poker room rates) and moderate spends I am looking at $20k for the trip and $5k bankroll for some cash play. for $25k all in is my limit.

So that's my minimum target on return from both the cash and festival. I want to come home cashing on or more than $25k! Not the biggest target in the world and it is achievable, but the competition is tough. Can I cut it and transfer my on line success to the green felt of Vegas!

This is not my first trip, and in 7 previous trips I have came home in profit 6 times, but I have not been for 18 months and this is by far the highest levels I will have played at in Vegas live. Can I transfer the success and make the step up?

That is an extravagance I accept I am lucky to be in a position to risk that sort of cash. But after the year I have had away from Poker, combined with the fact that I am having my best year on line at the tables (currently up approx $52k), it is one I can do and deserve as a reward for getting through this time of my life combined with having some fun with what I have cashed on line!

I play mostly medium/high level deeptack MTT's on line, also cash ($5/$10 and up) NLH or PLO (same level) and low level ($2/$4 max) Hi/Lo!

I have not been around here too much, but think I will call it home from now as far as a Poker forum's go! (a couple of people around here know why I couldn't before).  If anyone wants to say hi or will be in Vegas over this time, then let me know as I am travelling alone. I will try and get on here some more both before I go when I am stateside with a few updates or mini blog, maybe! (I'm not that interesting, so maybe its just an ego trip)!

I do think I can do it though!

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

hi,

me (nicky evans), dave jones and tom cunningham will be out in vegas for the whole thing aswell so im sure we will cross paths on numerous occasions. I disagree with you saying its going to be tough. During the wsop the venetian fileds were 600 strong with about 25% of the field that could actually play poker and 5% of really good players so lots of value imo. I think it will be softer now than during the wsop because alot of the pros wont make the trip just for the deepstack extrvaganza. Obviously theres variance to deal with as theres only 1 comp a day but i am super excited for this festival. If the structure is the same the tournes start of relatively slow and have a super fast mid section and quite a lot of play deep (not that i had much experience this summer)...... theres 2 mid levels that double when the antes kick in which clears alot of the field out before dinner. All in all there excellent tournies imo

gl and win it all

the venetian is really good to stop at & i'm sure you'll enjoy your stint there.
ur prob gonna need a top 3 spot somewhere along the line to get out of it/show some profit...i found the single table sats really really soft & i'd def play a few of those.

Exactly what I was thinking, either that or a top 6 and a large % of money finishes but that isn't so easy with such large fields. Will try and take some pressure off by targeting myself $5k from the cash, but the challenge is on and I can't wait as I have really needed this break as Poker has been my salvation this year and a month of nothing but Poker and relaxing by the pool or a spot of shopping, or even eating out or a night in a club, is a month of heaven!

To be honest the cash return isn't the main thing of this as you may gather, tbh I would pay $25k now just to get away from it all, but that don't mean that I wont be doing everything I can to come home with more $ than I go with!

Either way I will have a smile on my face! I also think that will help my game as I don't need to win etc, I can just play my game and relax without added pressure.

I will keep you all updated!

Also, on my last visits I have not played too much cash. Given what I set aside for the deepstack buy-in's I am planning on taking $5k as a cash bankroll and will limit myself to this unless I cash in one of the early Deep stacks!

Given my bankroll and the fact I play both NLH or PLO, where would any regular Vegas cash players suggest I play? What sort of level and what sort of sit down chips should I start with?

Not asking for too much am I? Sound like a novice now! Truth is I play a lot and I am very comfortable on line in both cash and MTT's and in live MTT's, but have very limited live cash experience. I want to allow myself that $5k to either develop that and prove to myself I can step up live, or bust it all in one night!

you sound like you have plenty of cash experience. With that in mind and assuming competance -  i would probably swerve the 1/2 and 1/3 tables - get yourself on the 2/5 and make some proper money. If you run good maybe step up and see how it goes.

Gl with this - should be a nice close to what sounds like a bad year!

A bad year is putting it mildly, but I am coming through it now and determined I will do so stronger as a person and a Poker player! Like I have said, this could be an extravagance but one I am prepared to give myself at this time of my life. But that's only worst case, I fully intend coming home in the black and maybe significantly so!

As for my cash experience, yes I do have plenty, BUT this is mainly on line! The rest of the trip and the deepstacks I am comfortable with, but the cash is something I want to give myself more live experience at without doing my bollocks! So what better (or worse) place could I do it!

It is the cash side of things I need the most help with in pointing me in the right direction etc, the rest I Am happy to take on the chin and win or lose by what I do at the tables, and I can't wait! Bring it on!

nice card rooms

Venetian
Caesers
Bellagio

(but these tend to have better players)

Better value card rooms (in my experience) - but not as pleasant to play in

Flamingo ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)
Planet Hollywood (quite nice room when i played  - but i beleieve it has moved now - used to be close to the entrance)
Paris (pure com - saw what was quite simply the funniest hand of poker in my life here - me and a mate had to leave our seats for 10 mins we were laughing so hard)
