Meanwhile, I am reminded to remind you that Phil Hellmuth will enter the tournament scene at 12pm today as Julius Caesar, on a Chariot.
Consider yourself reminded.

The 3rd event of the WSOPE came down to a gruelling headsup battle between Jani Vilmunen and Howard Lederer. Both players fought hard through the early rounds and at one point it looked like it would be an all Finnish finish. Jani Vilmunen walked away with £204,048.
Vilmunen won the WCOOP Omaha event on Stars recently, so this is a spectacular double

Betfair has been sponsoring the WSOPE this year and they are giving away a free seat to the main event. You need to play at Betfair and you stand a chance of winning the seat. New and existing active players are entered into a draw. You need to be available to play on day 1B. You have until 5.00pm on Saturday 26th Sept to play a single raked hand on Betfair when the chance to enter the draw ends.
Day1a of the WSOPE Main Event begins Saturday 12pm
gg Tighty, that's Theo Jorgensen, last year's PLO winner.

An opportune moment to remind everyone of blonde's gratitude to Betfair, who are sponsoring this Board.
Here's the winner of the Betfair-sponsored WSOPO-E PLO.

Are they putting any streams up? And if not have they said why not. A bit disappointed this year.

promoting UB in the UK is actually a criminal offence under the gambling act, don't suppose the authorities will do anything about it tho.

DAY ONE FILLED WITH SEVERAL HIGHLIGHTS
The first day of the 2009 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event has come to an end. A total of 156 players from more than two dozen different nations paid a £10,000 entry fee and competed in the first of two starting flights. £10,000 (GBP) is equal to about $16,000 (USD). After more than 12 hours of play on day one, Brian Powell, from Louisville, KY USA emerged as the early chip leader.
The day was filled with several highlights. During an early break in the action, WSOP President and Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack presented poker pro Jeffrey Lisandro with his prize for winning 2009 World Series of Poker “Player of the Year” honors. Lisandro, who won a record-tying three gold bracelets in events earlier this year in Las Vegas, received a whopping three buy-ins into future WSOP Main Events. He will freeroll the 2010, 2011, and 2012 world poker championships, courtesy of Harrah’s Entertainment. Lisandro’s award is valued at more than $30,000.
A short time later, Jani Vilmunen, from Helsinki, Finland was officially presented with his first gold bracelet in a special ceremony. Vilmunen became only the second Finnish player in history to win a WSOP title when he earned his victory (and $330,000 in prize money) in the Pot-Limit Hold’em championship held the previous day. The ceremony honoring Vilmunen was the final such observance of the year. In 2009, for the first time ever, all WSOP gold bracelet winners were honored with ceremonies in what promises to become a popular WSOP tradition.
The day officially began with Doyle Brunson performing the traditional “Shuffle Up and Deal” honors. Jeffrey Pollack introduced Brunson by saying, “Doyle was there in Las Vegas at the very start of the WSOP forty years ago. Doyle was also with us when we started WSOP Europe three years ago in London. And, we are proud to have him with us today.” Predictably, Brunson’s introduction received a standing ovation from players and spectators.
But the spotlight was certainly eclipsed if not stolen outright by none other than 11-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. Replicating his grand entrance into a WSOP event earlier this year held at the Rio in Las Vegas, something which has now become a Hellmuthian custom, the poker bombast was clad in full regalia as a Roman gladiator and rode through Leicester Square in Central London on a chariot drawn by a white horse. As if that was not enough pomp and circumstance, Hellmuth was encircled by several muscled centurions and concubines wearing white dresses. “It’s great to be me,” the poker legend mused. Hellmuth’s grand arrival brought a mix of gasps, laughter, and puzzled stares from the thousands of people gathered around London’s theatre district witnessing the spectacle.
Next, Hellmuth entered Empire Casino much like Nero burning through Rome, oblivious to the ongoing tournament and taking his seat at the televised feature table. The bizarre spectacle was ornamented by an army of faux Roman soldiers erect and pretty girls standing at attention, while trumpets blared. Meanwhile, Doyle Brunson, who was positioned at the same feature table with Hellmuth and had his back to the entire Romanesque ordeal, could only muster half smile and shake his head with an unconcealed sense of bewilderment.
Notable players who survived day one included – Chris Bjorin, Farzad Bonyadi, Chad Brown, Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Brandon Cantu, Tony Cousineau, Eric Friberg, Peter Gould, Phil Hellmuth, John Kabbaj, Alex Kravchenko, Liz Lieu, Mike Matusow, Jason Mercier, Scott Montgomery, Men “the Master” Nguyen, Nick Schulmann, Barry Shulman, Erik Seidel, Phil Tom, and Marco Traniello.
Notable players who did not survive day one included – Jeff Madsen, Hoyt Corkins, Dario Alioto, Max Pescatori, Robert Mizrachi, Roland de Wolfe, Vanessa Rousso, David Pham, Huck Seed, Barny Boatman, Phil Ivey, Dario Minieri, and Andy Bloch.
The WSOP Europe Main Event continues tomorrow – on Sunday. It’s not too late to still register and play. Players may register for WSOP Main Event championship as late as the end of Level 2, on day two. Registration is projected to close at about 3:40 pm on Sunday.
World Series of Poker Europe championship event coverage and results continues tomorrow and will run daily through 2 October.
