Does anyone know the law on what age children cannot be legally left on their own ?

The reason I ask is a couple of young lads who hang about near my shop are both 10 and one night circa qtr to 10 on a school night one of them is  still kicking about the streets.. i ask him y his out so late and he informs me his mum and dad are out for the evening and they haven't returned yet.. this is not an isolated incident either as i have seen them out near midnight !

Is this illegal ?.. despite the feckless attitude of his parents... I have a ten year old and she isn't even allowed out on her own ever..period..

Two policewomen aren't allowed to look after each others kids and ten year olds (ffs they're still tiny at 10) are kicking about the streets and no one does sweet FA.

I asked this question ages ago and i dont think in law that there is an actual age,but if something happens to a child whilst you are not there you will be done for neglect!

Don't know if it's illegal, but it certainly sounds neglectful. I think the 'guideline' (if it's not a law) is 12.

you cant leave a kid alone AT HOME under the age of 14 at any time
nothing wrong with telling them to go play in the park while you nip down the pub though

As long as you ask a stranger to keep an eye on them..

You wouldn't be alone if you were baby-sitting...

For the 1st time ever I left Charlie (14) and thomas(12)on thier own on friday for an hour whilst i went to the Dr's,no problems but i Did worry about what if,

My biggest concern was  if Thomas kicked off,but beleive me Thomas in a quiet Dr's surgery after a week out of his normal school routine isnt something to be taken lightly,so i opted for the quiet less stressful choice
