its a panasonic viera plasma about 5 years old, all the usual holes i think, plan is to stream something on the internet and hook it to TV to watch.

Don't know without, but if they have just buy an HDMI lead and connect, it really is that easy. Lead costs between £5 and £50 depending on quality. My Dad has a Viera and I have just checked that it has one, but his is only 2 years old.

Your laptop will probably have a 15-pin VGA connector on it (a standard monitor plug) rather than a DVI port. If you TV has the same then it's easy. You need one of those for video, and maybe a 2.5mm to 2xphono for your audio. You need to look around your laptop and TV for this:  I doubt your TV will have HDMI being 5 years old, but it might have VGA. |

I doubt your Panny will have hdmi, if it does it will only have one.
So follow Richeos advice, from there :
Press the tv /av button on your tv remote then use the coloured buttons to select setting marked pc.
You may also have to press one of the function buttons on your laptop, on dells its F8.
