Table has been extremely nitty. Hero has controlled the table and been playing very aggresively, showed down a few river bluffs. Villain 1 is tight older guy. Villain 2 is a rock. Villain 3 is known to mix it up, talk strat with him online sometimes, but not really good friends.

Tournament is a 45 minute tournament, with a very good structure and 10k starting blinds, we have got 24k winning lots and lots of pots. I have second biggest stack on table.

Blinds are 150/300/25

Villain 1 (utg+2) opens to 900 (stack of 30k)

FOLDED TO

Villain 2 (hijac) calls    (stack of 19k)

Hero  (c/o) 10Jdd calls

Villain 3 (btn) flats  (15K)

Flop is 553r

Checked all the way round quickly

Turn 2

Checked all the way round quickly

River

Q

Checked quickly to hero who bets 1.8K

Villain 3 raises to  4.2k

Is 3betting this river reallllllllly bad?

What you got Q high? You don't want to be bluffing with 3 others in the pot.

I wouldn't 3bet myself purely because you have no reason to be putting yourself in this spot.

By all means take a stab on the river but once you're raised just give it up.

it's what hand we was trying to rep that was confusing me. If he is trying to make a really thin value raise with like QJ then I dont think he can call for his tournament life. And he bets a 5 on the turn if he doesnt bet the flop. I have discounted Villain 1/2 because they were in check fold mode with overcards imo. What hands can villain 3 call our 3bet with?

sorry for bumping this, but i've recently started to get aggro on rivers when i think people are making thin value bets. This is a live "deepstack" game against a 40 y/o guy. anyone?

Really find this an interesting spot.

I mean it's just a 50 quid comp-albeit with a nice structure- and it sounds like you will have a huge edge overall in lots of small pots, and this might strike of FPS.

However there's so much variance in poker we should embrace every +ev spot. Def sounds like he could be making a lightish rr here.

However i'd agree that what you are repping here is very important.

Would you play a house (3's and 2's full) like this? Possibly although building the pot esp on turn seems more likely.

I think unless you've hit the wheel on the turn, which again you'd most likely bet, you are basically repping kq, which surely you'd flat the rse with and not thinly 3b.

I'm not sure how a bare 5 can be in yr range due to the lack of pot building and the poss drawy turn.

Thus if im villan 3 i'd most likely call off with kq and even jq here, although i'm not totally sure why he wld rr these hands on the river, seems a little thin.

Therefore maybe he has slowplayed a house or even a donkish played bare 5.

Against a non thinking oppo you cld perhaps 3b to like 10k or so i guess, but it's prob just too fps and wld only fold out certain queens.

I think the old line wait for a better spot wld be correct here.

Just to note, FPS has been one of my biggest stumbling blocks in progression in poker.

Just let it go....if you've been running over the table you're already in a great spot.

I guess he could be spazbluffing but I don't think that'll be the case very often and even if he is, he'll feel fantastic that he somehow outplayed you and is less likely to get frustrated/out of line in future. Even if one bluff gets through, tightish regs tend to go back into their shell anyway after a little river adventure. I can't see him making a habit of raising your river leads often just because this one got through.

I wouldn't be showing bluffs to a tight table either. Why give them a reason to start calling you down light if they just wanna fold a lot?

Been thinking about this a bit this afternoon and from yr description of villan 3 he does have some air in his range, so i guess sometimes we can min 3bet.

But yeh prob a bit too FPS, lets just sigh fold.

Obv a jam may fold out his thin value rr with random queens, i just don't mass like it due to what yr repping and that im not totally sure he wldnt just flat with a lady, thus it's often nuts or air which he holds, and most likely the former.
