no idea. I'd assume lose half your stack or more, as normal, before you can take it

GUKPT Luton day three- final table

After what seemed like only 2 or 3 hours sleep, I was still buzzing and replaying hands in my head. First task was to persuade my wife Elena to come with me today. I was keen to have her there but she was very reluctant, feeling I'd done well so far without her and that she'd distract me & bring bad luck. I insisted though and she agreed to come along see the opening formalities (photos, interviews etc) but she didn't want to watch the actual play. My mum, who had always enjoyed a flutter, was very keen to come too and along with Elena's son Nick, it was a family affair.

My plan today is to be more aggressive as I'm now in 9th place and only have one way to go. I feel positive, as I have nothing to lose. I tell Tikay for Sky that I'm not here to ladder up, but want to find a shoving / doubling up spot to put myself back in contention. (Average is 330k; I have 140k, so only really one double up away from being in the running!).

Level 19 (6,000/12,000 and 1,000 ante)

• In the first orbit, 2nd shortest stack (an American old timer who was 6th in the WSOP Main Event in 1995), pushes all in with 5 5. Called by AK, I'm hoping he loses, but he doubles up and now I'm the shortest stack by some way. Not a great start.

• I play no hands (no spots to shove), but soon we get a strange hand resulting in an all in and call from two of the medium stacks (9 4 and 6 6 on a  9 6 4 board). We get a bust out and I'm elevated to a minimum of 8th and £8,200 for doing nothing!

• Folded to me, I find 10 9 spades and this is a shove for me. No callers and I take the blinds.

• Lost blinds for an orbit.

• Folded to me in SB and I push with 7 8 off suit. BB insta folds.

• Next hand it's folded to me on the button and I push with A 9 off suit. BB dwells and eventually calls. I'm disappointed to see he also has A 9. Two clubs on the flop give me a scare but its chop chop.

• Lost blinds for an orbit or two and find no spots to shove – now a very short stack as blinds are up to 800/1,600 and I have 6 BB’s with 96,000 having blinded down. It's now do or die time! There have been a couple of other all ins during this spell but each time the shortest stack has won, so no more laddering up.

• Wow, pocket Queens – what a time to find a hand! I push and it folds to BB (Clive Padden who knocked Chompy out). He hesitates, looks rounds, asks “Is anyone else in; is it just us two?...... OK, I call”.  I assume he’s weak and I'm looking forward to my double up, especially as he seemed hesitant, and then he flips over two black aces!  It really felt like a slow roll to me and I wasn't happy, but on reflection I think he was considering a raise if someone else was in! Anyway, 3 clubs on the flop and I'm drawing to a one outer which doesn't arrive, so dream over and gg me!

Day three Summary

Played 4 hands and every one an all in push. Had to run into a hand eventually and can't really complain that my 18th premium pair was the first one I lost with!

Thanks for reading and for all /any feedback.

Alan

I really enjoyed reading those, well put together and cracking insight to the event from your point of view.  Thanks and congrats on the result
