Our man has upped his game, and is now showing his true colours.

"Yawny yawny grind".

Meanwhile, my early night is in doubt, as I have 22k in the Luton poor mans freezeout.  Also here are tighty, ding, claw, edna, pep, jim McB, Hellmuth, semtex (out), and a cock in a suit.

Just shoved my 9bb in b on b with Kx and got a 4 minute dwell by 99 playing 50bb. I couldn't resist a volley on exit to be met with a look of incredulity and the comment " its my unlucky hand, I knew I was ahead but didn't want to lose". Lol

More from our leader.

"Got my money in (now you know what's coming......) as an 87% chance v Matt Perrins, that sure was good enough.

Then, following some advice from me to ge it in better......

""He made a hero call, too, after I had him all nicely set up".

Looks like he was owned by the boyz tonight.

Meanwhile, I got owned at Luton, but Ding is going along a treat, with double average.

Nor, I made the hero call. Ish.

Table was just ridiculous.

British Gas made a gay fold for the world. Would have put him on about 70k at 150-300. German guy in Seat 3 was tez, US donk who got moved to Seat 6 was worse.

'So...what to do from Seat 1,' I thought when I sat down? Gassy to my left, German donk to his left, John Earle to his left. Oh well, better play it tight I guess.

Hardly did a thing until 150-300, which was when Matt Perrins bought in and entered Seat 10. Interesting dynamic followed. He raised his first hand, predictably, so I re-plopped. He folded.

About ten minutes later he raised again from early position. Again I plopped it, this time with a hand (AK). He folded.
Knew this pattern wouldn't continue for much longer.

Blinds up to 200-400(50), folded round to his SB. He bumps it up to 1000. I'm calling with any two here. As it turns out K2.
Flop 2 3 9. He bets 1275, I make it 3050. He goes all in. I have 6500 back and call. He turns over K6. Six on the turn. Sigh.

Still, it's why we play poker innit? For the more interesting moments like this? Not to raise and have The Flaumster or Julie Van Dyke get stubborn with two pictures.

I really enjoyed the first table.  Apart from the names Chompy mentioned, we also had Pryan de Mel and Kevin Williams an up and coming Blackbelter who cashed in Luton (3rd or 4th place I think) in a £500 er in early Summer. So all in all, a fair bit of talent there (plus Chompy, Das and I!).

I quickly chipped up from 15,000 to 22,000 before a table move shortly after the first break.

Nothing went right after the move. I was card dead for ages and hardly played a hand. The first hand I raised got re popped and I folded. 2nd time I got called by the BB, my C-bet was called and he led the turn and I folded again.

I drifted all the way down to 9k at the 500/1k level and was in shove mode. I shoved twice uncalled and got back to 11/12k when I decided re shoving would be my best chance  of adding chips.

I had a very active player to my right, opening with raises whenever it passed to him. Next time this happened, I re-shoved with   and after a long dwell he folded. The very next hand he open raised  again.  Emboldened, I re shoved again, this time with   .  He snap called with pocket tens. 3 diamonds on the flop gave me hope and the fourth diamond on the turn gave me a much needed double up. My opponent commented that he should have called the hand before and I agreed! (He claimed to have had Q 10 suited that hand).

Shortly after this coup I found myself an under dog in a 3 way all in, with AQ v AK v JJ.  Not good!

The flop was a horrendous K J x, giving hope to both of the others (JJ man was a short stack and AK man was set to win a good side pot from me).

The turn was a blank.

And then the beautiful river left 2 players reeling and me on about 65k.

A good last session followed and my 99 and JJ hands both held up against short stack all ins, so I ended the night on 116,000 and am one of 30 returning with an average of 73,500 and 15 paid.

British Gas also returns with 79,000 having been unlucky a couple of times (notably when his QQ lost to AK and AK).

Remember, no G tonight, as they're closed for comedy and salsa dip action, so all off to Circus Circus imo. We'll show'em! Yeah!

Don't forget, the below tournament, at Circus Circus, will be counting in the league, as there's nothing on at The G

My mole at the table reported the following hand mid comp

Brian Stein limps UTG "everyone knows its Aces". Brian is rockier than, well, me. Lovely fella. Icon.

Folds round to Mr Californication in the big blind who min raises

Brian the Icon shoves-ville for the limp re-raise patented Aces move

Mr Cowboy snap calls for most of his stack with, e,r A-3

Mr LA Dodgers cashes in 3rd.

Good Luck Alan.....

I know we all joke... but what do we think regarding that mysterious mistress luck ?...

I'm a firm believer some people are inherently luckier than most..not just cards but life in general..

Very interesting post - and I have to agree that some are luckier than others and I've definitely had my share of good luck (in cards and in life).

I've also had my share of misfortune (e.g. first wife running off with my then best friend, and then losing my job a few months later), but I've always remained positive and optimistic, believing that things (even bad things) happen for a reason and that everything will turn out alright.

Were it not for the marriage break up I would never have met Elena , my second wife, famed for buying me into poker tournaments. Had it not been for the job loss, I'd probably never have started my own business.

Some years ago I read a book called The Luck factor, written by a scientist who'd studied peoples attitude to luck and the impact it had on their lives. I have no doubt at all that a positive attitude and an expectation of luck is a good philosophy to have.

When I first started playing poker (in a pub league in 2006), I was keen to learn and read lots of books. I started doing well quite quickly and people thought me lucky (its where I got the poker nickname).  I did get my share of luck but I worked hard too and in the Spring of 2007 I won the national pub league final in a league with over 2,000 players (and I won a £1k GUKPT seat after playing the game for just 6 months).

I don't mind being called lucky at all and when I joined Blonde I adopted the "Lucky" screen name. I probably play up to the name a bit too by posting my good luck stories but I do get my share of bad beats too.

The Luck Factor book and website make good reading.See http://www.theluckfactor.com/fix-your-luck/index.asp
