Some years ago I read a book called The Luck factor, written by a scientist who'd studied peoples attitude to luck and the impact it had on their lives. I have no doubt at all that a positive attitude and an expectation of luck is a good philosophy to have.

Something I struggle with a lot. Very nice post, more of this stuff please Alan

2pm start at The Vic, so need to go soon.

I also saw the author of this book present some years ago at a business networking event. Some of his material was fascinating and I'll post a couple of stories from this tomorrow.

On a lighter note, I lent my copy of the book to a business acquaintance and he never returned it. How unlucky is that !?

He'll go on to make millions and leave ya a chunk in his will for giving him the book.  That's just how good you run.

this is how i run. In the short space of time since replying to Lucky's post i've received my second parking ticket this month and now can't find my credit card which is my only means of paying it.  i'm guessing the silver lining is that the council will do something nice and helpful with that money.  gonna have to work on this i think!

Good Luck Alan.....

I know we all joke... but what do we think regarding that mysterious mistress luck ?...

I'm a firm believer some people are inherently luckier than most..not just cards but life in general..

thoughts ?

Very interesting post - and I have to agree that some are luckier than others and I've definitely had my share of good luck (in cards and in life).

I've also had my share of misfortune (e.g. first wife running off with my then best friend, and then losing my job a few months later), but I've always remained positive and optimistic, believing that things (even bad things) happen for a reason and that everything will turn out alright.

Were it not for the marriage break up I would never have met Elena , my second wife, famed for buying me into poker tournaments. Had it not been for the job loss, I'd probably never have started my own business.

Some years ago I read a book called The Luck factor, written by a scientist who'd studied peoples attitude to luck and the impact it had on their lives. I have no doubt at all that a positive attitude and an expectation of luck is a good philosophy to have.

When I first started playing poker (in a pub league in 2006), I was keen to learn and read lots of books. I started doing well quite quickly and people thought me lucky (its where I got the poker nickname).  I did get my share of luck but I worked hard too and in the Spring of 2007 I won the national pub league final in a league with over 2,000 players (and I won a £1k GUKPT seat after playing the game for just 6 months).

I don't mind being called lucky at all and when I joined Blonde I adopted the "Lucky" screen name. I probably play up to the name a bit too by posting my good luck stories but I do get my share of bad beats too.

The Luck Factor book and website make good reading.See http://www.theluckfactor.com/fix-your-luck/index.asp

Good post Alan!

I'll have a look at that book, I 100% agree about the positive outlook thing.

News just in on the Lucky hotline...

"On the same table as Das, the mad German and Greco. Das's car has broken down and he might be an hour late. Maybe it heard about that gay fold and is refusing to take him anywhere."

*The last sentence may have been made up

Just incase people are wondering, the Mad German is the same Mad German who FT'd a deepstack I updated (August or Sep, I forget which).

The one Lucky also made the FT of!

Bodo Wagner. Limp from any seat, then call a raise from any seat, then hit the flop from any seat....

Lucky hotline...

"Just bust the German. 99 on a 9 6 3 flop. I bet, he shoves JJ. Table critical of him not re-raising pre-flop."

Pretty standard from Bodo after what I saw. He really doesn't like raising preflop.

ETA/ But he does play hyper-aggressive after the flop w/ overpairs and top pair etc. Tends to love open-shoving when he has a piece.

Surely it might?  Not sure how deep the play is, but I'm hoping there would be other ways to play 99...

You'd hope so but not against Bodonk unf. Hopeless German was shortish despite doubling up through Beppe. Bodonk never raises pre.

The Lucky hotline has gone quiet
