Handing in your notice....

Well, after 8 years of working in IT Networks and Security I've finally decided to quit my job. I'll be handing in my notice on Friday after making sure I've been paid my commission.

I've applied for many different jobs from Landscaping to Sewer cleaner and to be honest I couldn't care less as long as I'm no longer sat in this office!!


Has anybody gone through a change of career/industry, what was it like??

yep. resigned from the Ombudsman's office in January after 14 years there. I'm still unemployed though, with no idea what I want to do, but it's still better than being back there. Good luck!

This is the time to sit and wait until things pickup imo. Virtually every industry is either cutting back or will be in the future and decent jobs are realllllly hard to find.

New jobs that are advertised can offer very few benefits and min wage because people are desperate.

Well i lost my job last year , then trained as  croupier  , did that for 4months the quit to play poker went on a nice run , then had a bad month so got a job as part time poker dealer and played poker part time and its great , the wage pays my bills and anything i win at poker i treat my self  and add to my bankroll .

I probably could have claimed contribution based benefits at first, but I didn't. I had money to live off until a couple of months ago, since when I have been claiming income related benefits.

Sure you could throw a six and land your dream job. But then again you could throw a one. A big fat one. Don't hand your notice in. Don't do it man. Actually probably easier to present yourself for a job if you're currently in employment.

Grass is always greener etc.

Whatever you do, don't apply for a job in the sewerage industry, it's going down the pan.

Yea on previous experience make sure you get another job first! If u just jack it in then you will regret it after you have left and your stuck with work for ages!
