It's all good publicity at the end of the day for all concerned.
Some morning and afternoon publicity too by the looks of it.

Yes, and even some early evening publicity if they're lucky.
I guess that construct is what we call a cliché.

for comedy value please let it outsell xfactor and then have them disallow all the cheapo purchases and make it no. 2
A lot of the x-factor purchases are via amazon as well - so it's likely to affect both records' sales.
Cowell will probably bully the chart people into accepting Amazon sales of 29p for the-X-factor-finalist-who-could-actually-sing, but not the RATM one.
I can just picture Cowell in his office, in the style of the Armstrong & Miller character: "Kill them".
I dont think Cowell will be overly bothered as RATM are on BMG which is part of Sony.
does this not make the whole campaign an epic fail?

Not really, its not a personal attack on him and its not like money means anthing to him.
To be honest I dont really know what their trying to 'achieve' I just think it would be a hilarious Xmas number one.

this. I've donated my 29p to Amazon. And might even do so again, if I thought it would help. Although they probably filter out multiple purchases from the same person for the chart tally?
Problem is, I had it on repeat for about 30 mins yesterday afternoon. I now can't get the guitar riffs from the start out my head.

Buy it from different sites then it'll count multiple times.
That said, I don't see why multiple purchases from one person shouldn't count.

You buy an album, love it, but play it to death and can hardly listen to it any more.
This never happened to me with that album, listened to it so many times, it never grew old. Must have bought a dozen copies, was always giving it away to friends who loved it. Most tracks are as good as or better than this one. A classic forever.

Wiiiii, looks like RATM might get the number one too. Pleasing news. A great, timeless track.

Think they're about 75k ahead in sales. Xfactor drivel gets released as a physical copy today though so should be close..

Price for a Joe/RATM duet? I would pay good money to go see that little cherub chanting '**** you I won't do what you tell me!' while Louis Walsh sobs uncontrollably in the background.

Won't be close - the RATM thing has peaked and X-Factor CD only went in the shops today. X-Factor will win by a distance.
