Has anyone been to the beer festivals in Munich?  I was thinking of going next year and wondered if anyone knows any reasonable hotels or has any other tips that are worth knowing?

LMAO ... did you see Morris's blazer at the weekend !!

The consensus was that he is either punting them out of his car boot ... or he bought it from one of those catalogues that come with the magazine in the NOTW Wink

We have stayed in a few different places, couple of times we did the Youth Hostle thing, which was really good TBH, people from all over the world coming and going as they please, drinking all night, Eastern european girls changing and shagging all over the place lol meet a great group on Aussie's one time, and also New Z's too, they can drink!

Other times we have been lucky to stay in the Hilton twice and the marriot once, Hilton was crazy, the Concierge guy keep looking at us funny when we were walking in at 3am covered in dirt stinking of stale booze, and handing over our clothes for dry cleaning lol

It depends on the money where to stay, for cheap stay go to the Youth Hostels, make sure you ask for a 4 or 6 Bed Dorm, or you could be in a 14 room one.

Best thing to do is go on Expedia for the dearer Hotels (still cheap tho).

Flights are really cheap if you fly into a place called Friedrichshafen, Ryanair fly there, and its only 1hr 15 mins by train to Munich. Flights direct to munich are easy £120+, whereas Friedrichshafen you can get for about under £9.99, we got 1p flights once.

One other thing is, the Okterberfest usually has different parts of europe going at different weekends, 1 weekend its Brits, another is full of Italian's, I think the other weekend is just everyone else, they don't advertise this, its just what usually happens, we ended up going the italian weekend once, and it wasn't as good, a bit cliquey TBH. Its what you make of it i suppose.

Once there, the Oktoberfest closes at 11pm every night. Once you leave head back to city center, its only about 3 block allong and 2 blocks up to the city center. there is a cracking sports bar called Cafe Shiela, its on Shiela strasse(Street), thats open all night, it only closes for 30 mins from 6:30am till 7am, to clean the floors etc, the guy that owns it (Ronnie) lets you take your pint outside to drink at his outside tables till it reopens lol

there is also a great Irish bar called 'The Shamrock Bar' 10 mins away by Taxi, its amazing, live bands on Fri/Sat/Sun, the staff are amazing, Owner is called Big Phil, and Gives out free Jeggerbombs to us when we go in since we got to know him, once this closes at 3am, ask for the head Waitress called Theresa, and ask her for the address for 'Temple Bar', get a taxi there and just enjoy it!! Thats open till 6am.

Im sure there will be other stuff that comes to me, anything in particular your, after just ask.
