Tell the dealer and the other players that you have never played live before and ask them to please be patient. (If you do this I guarantee they will be)

Ask if your unsure about anything, and always announce your intentions before you put chips into the pot. i.e. "I Call" Or, "I raise 150", etc.

Don't wear shades or headphones.

Smile.

3 rules of playing live:

1. Always announce what you are going to do before you put your chips in
2. Try to wait until it is your turn to act (or close to it) before you take a look at your hole cards
3. Don't piss on your own headphone wire

DTD is a good place to play for your first time, as it's all dealer dealt and well run.

I'll be playing the £50 on Saturday, 10,000 chips - should be a good un.

Interesting one this - I've always done this but recently a well respected player told me he always looks beforehand so there is less chance of people watching him when he's looking at his cards. I think I give too much away in any case so if I had a monster and looked early doors then I would probably give too much away.

But if you look stright away and See  you start thinking how much to raise by..on other hand there is a rasie and a flat call and you look at  you can chuck them in the muck a lot faster

There's another reason not to look at your cards before it's your turn.  If you don't look, you can watch others look at their cards, see if they react (with disinterest or holding their cards as if they're going to fold, or get excited and start counting their chips as if they're going to bet,et ), and as you haven't looked at your cards you will be more observant each hand and not give anything away to other observant players.

I preferred you more when you were busy with your new woman - nice to see you back though x

I do it for just my state of mind in the hand, I think what I want to do in this hand and what hand I need to do it before I have actually looked.

So say I have 99, and a loose player raises, a tight player reraises, then I can look down at 99 and I can quickly muck.

If I see 99 and think "my god that loose player is gonna play right into my hands here" then the tight player reraises, I may become too attached to my hand and will make a losing play.

You can make more thought out moves too, if you like the players and stack sizes behind you, you know what cards you would like to see and already know your opening range at this point, and you can look down at 86s and know that you can open. Likewise you can look down at A9o and see that there is a bunch of short stacks behind you likely to shove so you can just fold without getting attached to your hand.

Everyone is different but this is how I play best, a big tell I use to have was that if I am tilting I tend to be looking at my cards frequently before it is me to act.

The reason I don't look until it's my turn is because I'm watching what everybody else does.

By the time it gets to me I know my raising range and how much I'll be raising. I'll have the chips ready to make this raise if necessary.

I also know my calling range and folding range.

quick glance at the cards. Double check even though I know what they are first time and then make the appropriate play.

The reason for the double check is just in case I need to check suits. If I see a pair I will still double check. It's just a routine but if you do the same routine every time you shouldn't give too much away.

Oh and don't talk. That will always give something away. Unless you are Daniel Negreanu or Tony G you'll do a piss poor job of it so just stay quiet.
