You can get the plane to Brum International Airport. There are buses from the terminal to the station. It's 10 minutes from there on the train to New Street in central Brum. From there, you can go direct to Nottingham.

There's a direct train from Luton Airport Parkway to Nottingham - if you go to Birmingham airport you'll have to get a train to New Street then change.
It's about an hour and a half from Luton to Nottingham.

I'd guess so. Luton sounds easier, but no idea which trains run more frequently. Guess you can do a search on here: http://traintimes.org.uk/

I have done the Nottingham to Luton Airport a couple of times recently. Costs about £35 on the train takes about 90 mins direct and trains run every hour. You do have to get a short bus trip from the station to the actual terminal, but this should be included in your rail fare.
