Dave Colclough flew out to Vegas yesterday, the plan being to play the entire World Series.

He sent me a text earlier today which read.....

"Queue to register for tourneys is 4 hours long, & today's $1,500 NLH is sold out & I did not get a seat".

Now, you may say he should have booked earlier. But DC's been round the block a time or two, & does the WSOP every year, so he knows what he's on with, so it looks like 2005 is gonna be even bigger than expected. He later told me he's never seen so many folks there so early, & has never before today been turned away from a WSOP comp 'cos it's sold out.

You have been warned!

More news from Vegas, via Dave.

Today's comp was sold out at 2,200 runners, plus 200 alternates. There were probably in excess of a thousand turned away.

The Main Event currently has a capacity of 6,000 - & 5,400 seats have ALREADY been sold.

Dave thinks the organisers are considering having a "fourth" opening day, which will increase capacity by 2,000, but this is only a rumour.

So Dave's advice, if you intend to play the biggie, is register NOW - I believe you can do this via some of the online poker rooms.

Dave also asked me to specifically relay this message to Simon Nowab & John Falconer - can someone pass that on, please, I don't have a telephone number for either of them.

Ignore the final para - I have spoken to Chunky Nowab. Let's hope him & John find a way to buy in quickly.

There are a lot of phone calls being made and a bit of finger crossing going on.

I bet there is!

Let's hope they add the fourth day - if not, there are gonna be a lot of disappointed players.....

It's easy to get blase about it, but the growth in poker is just jaw-dropping......

if they allow 8800 players into the event (4days x 2000+200) then they will have to have 2  second days i think either that or reduce day 1 to an total crap shoot with 30 minute levels

Its the internet influence and the TV coverage, and despite the fact that there may be some dissapointed players, i say its fantastic for the game.  where does the game go from here ?? next years WSOP will be a 2 week event probably !!!

"senile old fool" - that'll be me then. Sigh.....

And that means Colchester Kev can be part of the blonde Live Update Team. He can keep an eye out for us.
