".....Advert for 'reliable workers' banned as discrimination by Jobcentre Plus
The boss of a recruitment firm said she was told she could not place an advert for ''reliable workers'' because it discriminated against unreliable people.
Nicole Mamo, 48, wanted to post an advert for a £5.80-an-hour domestic cleaner on her local Jobcentre Plus website.
The text of the advert ended by stating that any applicants for the post ''must be very reliable and hard-working''. But when Ms Mamo called the Jobcentre Plus in Thetford, Norfolk, the following day she was told that her advert would not be displayed instore.
A Jobcentre Plus worker claimed that the word ''reliable'' meant they could be sued for discriminating against unreliable workers.
Ms Mamo, a mother-of-two, from Boreham Wood, Herts., said the situation was ''ridiculous''.
''I placed the advert on the website and when I phoned up to check I was told it hadn't been displayed in the job centre itself," she said. ''She said 'oh we can't put that advert on the job points'. She said it was because they could have cases against them for discriminating against unreliable people.
''I laughed because I thought that was crazy. We supply the NHS with staff so it's very important for the patients that we have reliable workers.
''We find jobs for hundreds of temporary staff every week and are proud of our workers but our reputation is at stake if they aren't reliable.
''We are taking people off the dole and finding them jobs so not displaying the advert just seems absolutely ridiculous to me.''
Ms Mamo, who runs Devonwood recruitment agency and employs eight people, placed her advert on the Thetford Jobcentre Plus website on January 21.
The job offer, which cost nothing to display, read: ''Domestic cleaner required immediately. A variety of different shifts available. Must be fluent in written and spoken English for health and safety reasons. Previous experience preferred. Training will be provided.
''Must be very reliable and hard-working.''
The following day she phoned Thetford Jobcentre Plus and was told by a woman named Carol that her advert could not be displayed.
She claimed that the job centre could be sued by unreliable people if they placed the advert on their 'job points' but told Ms Mamo it will remain on their website......"

Must be a level?
Similar nonsense to that story about parents being refused alcohol in Morrisons (I think) because their 17-year old daughter who was with them might drink it...

lol, if thats true then whomever complained/disputed the original advert needs to be flogged.
I remember once a thicko mate of mine applied for a job as a graphic designer, despite:
not having a relevant degree as stated in the advert
not having a degree
not having a portfolio of work
never having designed a single piece of work in his life
he basically just fancied being a designer all of a sudden
They didnt give him an interview and he got his mum to ring up and complain and threatened to sue that he was being discriminated against.
Not sure where Im going with that story, just basically affirming that there are some thick people out there

wtf do they care anyway, what difference does it make if the word is there, is an unreliable applicant gonna see the word "reliable" and think:"damn that's me out, ffs why cant i catch a break, i come all the way down here to look for a 'useless fuck wanted' job and all theyve got are these reliable applicant jobs".

Spot on Barry.
Presumably an Advert for a typist which said "must be able to type" would be non-compliant, too. "That's not fair, I can't type".....
The story is being widely circulated by the Media, but I still can't bring myself to buy it.
Presumably Carol, the lady at the Job Centre, cannot be sacked on the grounds of stupidity either, as that would discriminate against stupid people.

Just a case of lady in the job centre making a mistake because she got her wires crossed probably.
If you make a mistake at work, better make sure that it doesn't fit the 'political correctness gone mad' narrative or your booboo will be national news.

It says a lot about the complainy/nanny/sue each other society we live in really, you might be totally thick but claims direct can make you loads of money and there isnt many forms to fill in.
I once worked on a project with a teacher at Nottingham college and he told me there was a big hoo-ha because someone complained about a Christmas Card with snowmen on, because snowmen were racist, because they were white. Rather than laugh off such a complaint, it by all accounts divided the staff room on the subject.
Pretty certain this story was probably blown out of proportion in some way or other, just like the above Christmas card story probably didn't go down quite in the way I was told it.

No, just saying that just because they are white doesn't mean they are racist, some of their best friends might be black etc.
