Mmmm
There are loads of these that are fake but that email address is a real revenue one by the look of it.
I dont think they ever contact you like this through email though.
Easiest way to check is just ring the tax office with your NI number to hand they will tell you straight away.

I went onto the HM Gov site and forwarded it to them, thought it was best they was made aware of it incase no one else has told them it is going around. That should be enough shouldn't it?.

Do you submit your tax return online Mo?
If you do then it's possible that you've received a genuine email.
If not it's very doubtful. Anything tax related online is done through the government gateway which is a secure server. You have to have a password etc. to do anything on it.

It's a fake - a phishing email ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing) In your email client if you hover over the link it won't be to the official site. Never click a link in an email to a bank or similar site. Always go to the site and log in via the homepage. You can even download software via your bank (Trusteer Rapport is one example) which tries to help prevent you getting caught by phishing sites/emails.

these are always phishing emails
you can tell by hovering over the links, you will see dodgy urls
HMRC never use terminology such as "fiscal" or GBP
they will ask for bank details or whatever and HRC will never ask for these, esp by email

Just put your cursor over the link and look in the bottom left corner of your screen. It'll tell you where it's really taking you.

I wouldn't be. You didn't run any applications they asked you to, you didn't give them any information. You'll be fine.
