2005 - Not just poker..

I started to write this in the Highs/Lows thread but it's not really about poker and I've got no lows to speak of so I'll copy/paste to start a new thread.

2005 was a fantastic year for me for many reasons.

In chronological order.

January -

I had a excellent holiday with a large group of old friends and friends of old friends, 14 of us rented a chalet in the french alps and we all had a great time, not a cross word for the entrire week. I also re-discovered my love for skiing badly. All holidays should be this good.

April -

My sisters wedding was a fantastic and very happy event which brought together friends and strangers from many different walks of life. My sister is adopted and the wedding brought together three very different families to celebrate the marriage of two very special people.

May -
 
I gave up my job to play poker full-time. I wasn't enjoying my work, I was stressed and I didn't have time to do all the things I wanted to do and spend time with the people I wanted to be with.

Summer -

I'd quit work quite suddenly without a real plan and a woefully inadequete bankroll, so playing poker full-time wasn't the immediate solution to my stress levels. I  had a few anxious moments of CV tweaking and job agency browsing between hands.
I'd said at the beginning of the summer that I wouldn't regret my decision to leave work if I got to watch the whole of the Ashes series and enjoy a summer of freedom. By the time England won the Ashes I had a plan, a bankroll and some reserves. That day I bought 4 bottles of (cheap) champagne and invited my friends round to celebrate England's triumph and my own achievement.

September -

I become an uncle, my sister gives birth to a wonderful baby boy called Tau. Everyone is very happy. I stop smoking.

December -

People are breeding like rabbits all around me. Another little cousin is born, another pregnancy announced and two of my closest friends became parents last week. Everyone seems to be growing up, that's ok, as long as I'm not expected to join in.

That was my year, I've had a great one. I have more time to spend with friends and family and do the things I enjoy. I've enjoyed the support of my friends and family. My flatmates, who are close friends, have been great, I can't have been good company during my run of 17 STTs without a hit!

I'm looking forward to next year, I'm looking forward to watching these babies grow into children and the challenge of supporting myself in my first full year of proffessional play.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Blondes, discovering Blonde and becoming a small part of it was also a big part of my year. It's nice to have some company when your're working alone most of the time.

Good luck with your poker exploits next year Wardonkey, I hope it continues to run smooth for you.

My non-poker year was not as good as yours.

There have been a few deaths in my family, I split up with my girlfriend. Moved to Glasgow without her and am missing my family and friends from Aberdeen.

I'm not one to dwell on what has past, instead I'm focusing on making 2006 a better year. I'm going to try to make some more friends in Glasgow so I don't feel as isolated. My Sister is going to bring new life into the world so I'm going to be an uncle .

In September I'm going to go back to University to finish my Mathematics degree. I dropped out in 2002 after my first year. This should give my life some pupose and direction which  it is lacking at the moment.
I'm very excited and optimistic about the future. I have to pick a city, the shortlist at the moment is London, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Cardiff. If anyone has any suggestions/recommendations for a good City to study in are more than welcome.

Years like the one I've just enjoyed don't come around very often, and i wanted to share it.

Being an uncle is great, you will love it.

Purpose and direction are over-rated!

Thousands of students enjoy Leeds, It's a great city.

Being an uncle is great fun and reminds me why we don't have kids.  As they grow it reminds you that you are getting older.. but it's fun in any event.

The wheel of life has continued to turn and I have had some highs and lows but I'm looking forward to winning my first MTT not sure if it will be in 2006 or 2016 but I'll keep trying.
