Hi mate. I lived in Bangkok for a couple years. If that's where your going check out The Oakwood hotel. They are basically apartments and they are not badly priced. They are outside the lunatic area but only like £4 by taxi and less by tuk tuk if you don't mind being covered in sand.

Give me an idea of what you want to do when you out there, I can probably help. Phuket is nice but its probably the most expensive place in Thailand alongside Bangkok.

Oh and gambling there is illegal, closest game for a game of poker is probably Macau or Philippines.

Went a long time ago, but still the same as far as I've heard. Its just a piss up and an expensive one at that, too commercialised now, better places to go on the lash IMO....... Also you will get offered drugs, under no circumstances take them, the penalties are really harsh there, in reality the police will probably want a chunky bride off you to get away £2-3k may get you out without charge.
Yea think I will just stick to the booze. Heard a few horror stories about poilce corruption over there.
What's the deal with the political instability in Thailand? Does it pose a major threat to tourists? Is Bangkok a no go area for now?

I was there a few weeks ago and its confined to a small area in Bangkok, I would probably stay clear of Bangkok for the moment just in case. It could change at any point for better or worse, just check before you go it may be fine then.
Other parts of Thailand are not affected.
