Quick report guys.
First of all it was a pretty shit start to the day! I leave Leicester in plenty of time but hit traffic early on cos of an accident in Wigston and then hit traffic on the M6. Arrive in Cov at 1.50 to buy in with my debit card.
Approach the cash desk and they say the tournament is full! O rly? They ask me to go and speak to the poker desk to find out. The poker desk tell me they have closed entries till the tournament starts because they've done a seat draw. Pretty annoying but fair enough. I ask if I can buy in at the poker desk with my debit card, they say yep so I wait there. Tourney starts and I now get told to go and buy in at the cash desk where a rather large queue has formed. Great!
Queue up at the cash desk when I finally get there to buy in the lady tries to reg my debit card and says I'm not a member of this casino! Sigh. I have to go upstairs to reg my card even though I did this on the week of the UKIPT. I go back upstairs where the computers are on a go slow and it takes another 10 mins. Back down I go and join the back of another queue. When I get there a different woman tries to reg my debit card. Another 10 mins later it's clear she doesn't know what she's doing. Eventually they take my 1070 pounds and I can play!
I sit down and am quite happy with my table. I have Rana two to my right and Nick Wealthall on my left. Also Eddie Lundon. There's a lot of limping going on. Standard is pretty terrible. However I found it hard to get any leverage!
First significant pot I play. Rana limps at 50/100, I make it 350 (I'd being doing this quite frequently cos the guy on my right just kept limping- even later on at 200/400 he would limp call most pots) Old nit calls on the button (Tikay later informs me it's this MDD guy). Rans calls.
Board comes 10, 4, 6 rainbow. Rana checks. I bet 700. Nit calls, Rana folds. Turn is a 2. I have pretty much given up when called on turns in prev pots and I should probably give up again cos it's a bad card to barrel. However I don't put old nit and too strong a hand so decide to fire 1800. He calls after some careful deliberation. I am ready to give up until an ace hits the river. I do a backflip inside and bet 3300. At this point Nit insta shove and I puke fold. [ ] Good read George. I'm nown down to 8.5k
I battle back to starting stack and yo yo between 11-16k for like 3 levels. No hugely significant pots played but I was getting pretty much owned. I wasn't seeing too much in the way of premiums and with a pretty disgusting image there wasn't much I could do. Eddie Lundon soul owned me in one pot where I opened 109cc he flats with 43 in the sb and then calls two streets on a k53J board. I give up on the river and sure feel good when he shows his pair of
!
I get moved to a new table with some familiar faces including Mick Mccool, Jamie Brown, James Atkin, Jeff Kimber and some fish called Neil Blatchly. It's just hit 300/600 and I have a 14k stack. I'm grinding like a mofo and don't play a hand for 45 mins. I am still card dead and decide to open A7 in mid position to 1600 to try and steal the blinds. Jeff Kimber peels the button. He's been calling quite frequently so I put him on a very wide range. Board comes J106 two diamonds. Pretty wet board so I decide to check. Blank on the turn and it goes check check again. I decide to bet 2600 on the Q river and Jeff calls with AQ. Great I've bluffed off half of a 20 big blind stack.
I continue to blind out and do Tikay proud when I go down to 4.1k chips and shove button with K10 at 400/800. Blatch calls with Q9 and I hold. Back up to 12k.
A couple rounds of the button later matey opens mid position for 2100, Mick Mccool peels button. I shoved
. Matey calls with AQ. I flop an 8 and double up to 24k. Easy game. I pick up the odd pot but continue to play quite snug. Twas a laugh at the table and I usually play my best when I'm enjoying it. For some reason I'm going through a real nitty stage. Spose this happens to everyone?
Big chip leader gets moved to our table and I later find our it's Rupert from blonde (although I didn't know this at the time). The luckbox somehow has 200k and opens for 2400 at 500/1000/100. I have 32k stack and look down at AK. I probably should 3 bet try to get it in but decide to continue with a slightly more conservative style and flat hoping for a squeeze behind. Blatch obliges and makes it 7.5k. Folds back round to me and after asking for a count and tanking for a minute I re shove. Blatch tanks hard. I have him just covered. He eventually calls with jacks.
So down to 3k and talks of me and Blatch colluding have gone out of the window! I shove 86hh and get there on an all heart board. Next hand I find KK (mbn) and double up against A9. Back up to 15k.
Then a weird hand happens and I'm interested in what the consensus is as to what I should do. A9 guys who's a tight welsh oneway poker member shoves his bowl (3k) all in. It folds to me and I'm pretty much calling with any 2 even with my stack. I look down at K5 and welsh guy angles "has he folded yet" and shows a king. Now I'm not sure what I should do. I'm pretty sure I'm dominated and with my stack the 2k is another round. I elect to fold.
Exit hand pretty standard. Rupert opens I shove Ak he obv has aces and I'm drawing dead on the turn.
GL to Blatch who managed to get 83k. My advice to his table mates is don't flip for it!
