lol at best english player to have played in the prem, pretty sure shearer would have something to say
Hard to disagree. Probably the most complete English player for his position in the prem. I shudder to think what would have happened had he gone to Utd. so does shearer! He sure does i know he is a legend in his home town, but he sometimes must lay awake a night knowing that he has no medals from the prime of his career! Best player to have won fk all It's pretty com how bitter the Man U fans still are that he turned them down(twice) when they still sing cheer up Alan Shearer years after he retired. I'd rather be a legend in my home town then win medals for a club I didn't give a shit about.

This is BS. I'm sure Shearer regrets deep down not going to United.

Do you think 'good lookin' Gary Neville would have chosen Utd or Chelsea in the same spot? Easy right. Had he ended up with no trophies do you think he'd have regretted his choice to go to Utd?

He'd rather win one merseyside derby than ten Vs yous lot.

Blackburn wouldn't sell him to us. Simple.

Surely it's a contradiction then that he had a choice? I always knew it as two bids accepted, Newcastle's second as Keegan knew he couldn't let Shearer go to Utd.

Heis famed for just asking two questions- what number shirt and who took penalties. Blackburn would not sell him to us- imagine Cantona and Shearer up front at the time. We would have been unstoppable

Point I'm trying to make is that maybe, at the time, given the choice he would have picked his home town club over any other. The pull is obviously huge.
However when he looks back on his career of nothingness, maybe just maybe he should have dug his heels in and said he would only sign for United.

People always over-estimate how much of a loss he was to United.
I mean he was an incredible striker but didn't United win something like 8/12 titles when he was at his playing peak anyway, not like they went trophyless without him.

He has a bar named after him under the ground,he's thought as probably our best ever player and he's an absolute God to every Geordie. Why would he want to change that for medals and to be just another one of the 20-30 legends at Man U.It seems like a simple choice to me ??

Because Monda surely professionals play football to win? The best want to achieve something. They want something to look back on? Who gives a shit if you have a bar named after you at the ground? He was held in such high esteem that Hughton got the job ahead of him in the championship even tho he made it quite clear he wanted the job
