my poker background is pretty typical.
I started playing poker for jokes after watching wpts and late night poker on tv. Started out with just friends playing about 10p 20p and I was obv tez. I didnt really put any effort into improving my game i just enjoyed playing it like a stereotypical chinese fish. I suppose at the time it wasnt about the money it was just having fun.
I had three turning points in my "career" in poker.
first I started talking to a guy called "toomuchcash" on bluesquare. started talking to him first by dissing him first saying that he is a huge fish. but i then find out that he won a end of year free roll for like 2.7k and he taught me the fundamentals of playing like a nit and nut peddling. I was pretty successful doing this. Made my biggest score to date online 6.7k in the 18$ rebuy 20k guarenteed then I came 2nd in the same tourney a week later for 3.8k when ak<a5 on x6789 all in pre sighs. Thought I was amazing. I had no BRM at the time just played what ever i fancied. Obv ended up losing some of it back but cashed out a chunk.
Second Bignate904 He staked me for the 90s on tilt. He taught that you can win alot by grinding. But with this poker its redic mind numbing poker and all you had to do was push buttons but it made me money. Nate904 was a prick and wasnt very good at poker himself but he just grinded like a mofo.
Third was when i was staked to play tourneys on tilt by areyoulocal? on 2+2. During this timeI most enjoyed playing poker as We had a chat group on skype which we talked to each other everyday and it was just super fun. Obv black friday happened and areyoulocal? stopped staking me as he didnt like the outlook of poker. But I was still pretty stupid as I continued playing on my own dime. and i ended up losing a chunk when tilt stopped.
At this time i felt kinda sick. But I suppose it turned out for the good. Needed to really get my life on track as I wasnt good enough to play poker full time and had no real life work experience. So got a job working in an accounts department. I hate it but its a start.

I know alot of ppl think poker is all about volume.
the more you play the more you make etc.
do ppl think its more important to play when your in the right frame of mind to play and it doesnt matter about volume?
for example
play a full schedule for 8 days in a row but play 70% of what your capable of playing or just play when ever you feel like playing poker and play your best?
I was kinda struggling to play well (results wise) in the last couple of weeks. I played everything going on dtd but my results have been super bad. hopefully my break has done some good and i can win again.
Live poker has been shocking tbh been playing super bad but hopefully I can get the right mix soon and start getting some deep runs in

does anyone think that december is a bad time to play poker?
as casual players have less disposable income to waste on poker?

Hi Paul..Intersting & Soul revealing read Predominately a tournament player, I think my time management is best served by playing bigger buy in tournaments ...for example Id much rather play 1 x £300 than 6 x £50 buy ins , but I'm not sure applying the same logic would work with cash games as you could be playing in games youre not rolled for. On that subject I do think it is important you identify your strongest form of the game and try to stick to it especially when trying to build a bank roll.. ask yourself .."Am I a cash game or tournament player ? " As regards being in the right frame of mind...exercise,sleep,making sure bills have been paid, partners and children have been accounted for etc etc all contribute to a positive frame of mind ,because we all know poker is a confidence game and its difficult to concentrate with shitty outside influences. No doubt other people will have different opinions I think what you have to do is choose the elements that best work for you. Hope you have a good 2012 Cheers Fraser

I should really make more of an effort to play the super 50 and other tourneys. But I have started to go to the gym again which i think is a big factor. I supose Maslow's hierarchy of needs applys quite alot in poker. Confidence is key.
