                                 Milton Keynes Food and Drink Fair

Today we went to MK to sample the best of British local grown food.

There were many local butchers all cooking sausages and the smell from all the hot griddles was heavenly.

First up was Ostrich farmers who were cooking burgers and sausages

Then we tried The Buffallo burgers and sausages.

They all had free samples to try, lol

The buffallo farm were also selling Buffallo milk and buffallo ice cream. ( Strange )

As well as sausages they had real ale to try ( Free )

And I found 4 GIn makers who were giving shots away as well.  lol

I tried normal White Gin, Blackcurrant Gin, Sloe Gin, Wellsh Dragon Gin, and many others.


The wife was not happy,  she had to drive home

I bet Mrs. Pie drives you home when you have overdone it a bit.

I did buy a pie to take home for dinner tonight   it was Wild Beaver Pie

It was OK , if a bit greasy, lol.

I think the stall holders were trying to get people merry enough to buy the Xmas gift packs.

The Sloe gin stall had 2 small bottles of Sloe with 6 truffles for £14 gift wrapped ( bit dear )

The real Ale stall had 3 bottles for £5 in a carrier bag ( not as cheap as Tescos)

The French Cider Stall was selling 3 bottles for £15 . The cider was a bit cloudy, pale yellow, and a bit rough

The worst sausage I tasted was Real Bore meat, and it took a few shots of gin to get rid of the gamey taste.

It was like eating a normal sausage thats been in the fridge too long, lol

Hope its OK to put a few Gin links in here

BRITISH SAUSAGE WEEK 2010 GETS OFF TO A FLYING START

Multiple retailers faced their toughest judge today as one of the strictest talent show judges Craig Revel Horwood marked the start of British Sausage Week by announcing the Supermarket winners of Britains Star Sausage competition.

Handing over the ‘Gold Award’ to Morrisons for their ‘Pork, Oak Smoked Bacon and Cheddar Cheese Sausage’ Craig said: “I’m known for being a tough judge, but I can genuinely say the standard of entries was so high that picking a winner was hard work, however, this sausage was just fab-u-lous; a worthy winner of the Multiple Retailer Star Sausage title!”

Morrisons said: “It’s an honour to be presented with the Gold Banger Award, it’s a favourite with our customers and we are glad Craig agrees.”

Silver awards were given to Tesco for their Pork Toulouse Sausage and Marks and Spencer for their ‘Outdoor Bred Pork and Bramley Apple Sausage.’

Sainsbury also received a bronze award for their ‘British Cumberland Sausage’.

A new innovation category was introduced to the competition this year in recognition of the unusual flavours now available on supermarket shelves, resulting in the first ever ‘Purple Banger’ award for Innovation being presented to Marks and Spencer for their ‘British Outdoor Bred Pork, Mature Cheddar and Red Onion Sausage.

In-store butcher counters were also included this year and it was Tesco that triumphed in the Best Retailer Butchery Counter category with a ‘Pork, Spanish Red Onion and Tomato Salsa Sausage’.

Each winner was presented with a Banger award and certificate by Craig at a special event which took place at the Butcher’s Hook and Cleaver near Smithfield Market, London.

The day also marks the start of the nationwide sausage tour, with Craig leading the search to find Britain’s star sausages produced by butchers and farm shops across the country, from Bristol to Newcastle*.
