Cannot get on to my computer; keep getting Line 422 as well as other numbers but mainly Line422. Tried to log on in safe mode but still no good.

The problem seems to since I had some updates. The plan was to log on in safe mode and then restore to last working. But cannot get on at all

Using Windows XP

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Even if you can't log into Windows, you should be able to restore the data (photos, music, etc.) on the drive.  That shouldn't be lost.

You can even plug the hard drive into another PC to access those files if necessary.

Tried the disc, no good

So my only option now is to take the hard drive out and connect it to another PC, or should just take it to a shop?

Do you have a mate locally who knows their way around a computer?  They might be able to do it for nowt, otherwise ring around a few shops and see how much they're quoting.

If you have something to copy the files onto you could try a live cd (like ubuntu) to get access to them and copy them across.

Yes, download it, burn it to CD (it's an image so choose "burn image" in your writing software, don't just put the file on a CD) then boot from that CD. It will give you an OS that runs from the CD so you can access your files and copy them to another hard drive.
