Need techy advice on remote desktop for android phone

trying to set up remote desktop with my HTC but dont even know where to begin to look for settings:

I have windows XP and I'm on sky.

The details I need are either DNS name or IP address(how do I get this?) for 1st part

then password(I know this bit its on router)

then port(somebody in android market said something about having to open one up)

any help appreciated!!!
